Just got an email from the Premier Fantasy Football League that it's started up for the new season.

Will we be having our mini league again ?

    I'm in.

One thing I was thinking about was structuring it slightly more, and creating an actual league, similar to the super 20 or whatever it's called. Essentially if we have our own league based on weekly "games", in addition to the normal FF points based league and Captain's excellent cup.

Not sure if that's more work than we are prepared to do though!

We could do it as a head-to-head league, instead of (or alongside) the conventional one. I've never played in a head-to-head, but I think the website automatically generates a fixture list and you score pts for beating whoever you're up against on a given week. That wouldn't create extra work for one of us to do.

On the subject of the cups (thanks for the praise, Surlyc), I was hoping someone else would volunteer to take them on this season. I organise the other league I play in and one of the reasons that I kept falling behind on scheduling cups towards the end was the process of trying to juggle cup competitions for both. Any volunteers?

That's basically what I was thinking, Captain.

I'd be prepared to be involved in the administration, if no-one else has a pressing desire to do it.

I'd be in too. I'm not sure I'm capable of organizing the cups though.

The cups are easy, just a little time consuming (only a little though). The trickiest bit is to work out how many byes to give for the first round to leave you with a second round of 8, 16, etc. Take the biggest of those number away from the number of teams, and that's how many teams need to get knocked out. So the first round has to have twice that number taking part. Thus:

14 teams is 6 more than 8. So you need 6 matches in the preliminary round, meaning 12 teams play and two get a bye.
17 teams is 1 more than 16. So you need 1 match in the preliminary round, meaning 2 teams play and 15 get a bye.

If more teams play than get byes, call it a first round. If more teams get byes call it a preliminary round. Simples.

Apologies if the explanation is patronising to anyone who feels quite capable of working it out themselves!

I'd be up for it again and the Head to head is a good idea if we get enough to sign up.

I think WhatDoesWoyWant organised it last season, but I haven't seen any post from him
    for some time.
I'm not great at setting anything up, so Surlyc you get my vote if you want to set it up.

I think the only thing to do is send a notification with the code to everyone once its set up,
as opposed to putting on open view on the forum, as you'd probably get a few WUMs joining.
ie: By Invatation only, or you can't come in

It's okay to make the code public. Whoever forms the league is given administrator status by the Fantasy League website and they have the authority to remove anyone who signs up that shouldn't be there. We won't be stuck with any unwanted interlopers.

I'm keen- but then past experience suggests I'll lose interest once I've slipped down the league, not keep up with team changes, and end up at the bottom- humiliated and open to ridicule. I don't know I can go through it all again.

Can I add my name to the list of people interested? I love fantasy games and have done the Yahoo ones for years so a new format would be interesting - especially with the added banter from the board.

That's better than me - I remain commited and keep up with all the team changes only to finish miserably!

So, just a quick summary of where we are:

    Proposed competitions for next season:
The Luis Boa Morte Memorial Shield (Holder: fulhamireland)
The Alphabetti Spaghetti Bowl (Holder: Super Brian McBride)
    The Cottage Cup (Holder: frogman27)
    Traditional League (Holder: RobespierreFFC)
    Head to head league (inaugural)

We should probably name the leagues at some point, if anyone has any ideas.

    Confirmed for next season
    Super Brian McBride
    Surlyc
    Captain Morgan
    fulhamireland
    dempsey's revenge
silkship (humiliation and ridicule is no excuse not to compete, my friend!)
    Fred's Cultured Left Foot
    Bidley

In last year but not declared as yet:
    WhatDoesWoyWant?
    Penguin
    Craven112
    RobespierreFFC
    frogman27
    Khadrim
    GeraScores
    FFC_Madness

EDIT: If all 8 from last year sign up again, it makes the cups a lot easier to organise!

Whoever takes over the cups should feel entirely at liberty to rebrand them with new sponsors and new gimmicky rules. That said, I suggest that the Cottage Cup should be kept every season as our major knock-out trophy. We could keep the 'Shield' and 'Bowl' parts of the other names if people want a sense of continuity and history. Or not.

I can confirm that Tootif are in the middle of a successful preseason campaign and we are looking forward to the challenge of another season in the Not606 league.

I'm v interested to see how the head to head competition goes and thanks Surlyc (and others) for the orgnisation so far.

Is this for cash or is it just the honour of taking part. Reason I ask is I am already in several cash ones and this might stretch things too far but if just for fun then I'm game.

Yeah, this is free to play and playing for honour and pride. I'm not giving any money to Penguin or Robespierre!
