A firefighter? Not in my opinion we don't. We need someone with a long term plan, to build something here, not a one season wonder. I'm well aware of the predicament we're in, it's not pretty and I'm not expecting us to go straight back up. At the same time I'm not expecting a relegation battle.
I think you're exaggerating how bad our situation is, we got Moyes in with our finances in an equally bad state and ok we're in the Championship now but there are plenty of good managers in that league. We're in a pretty bad way but not so bad that we have to accept anyone who shows an interest.
Yep, it's not like we're stuck with a squad of player against time to keep us up. Next manager will have close to blank slate to work from, my not be blessed with a big budget but trusting a rebuild with a firefighter is not something I would do. Warnock's recent cv reads like our manager outgoings. Keeps teams up, start next season badly, rarely keeps a job longer than a year.
His recent track record would suggest it. We don't exactly have a wealth of managers to chose from but I'm hoping we're setting ourselves higher than Warnock.
While I'm by no means in any sort of optimistic mood, nor am I as pessimistic as most. Concentrate on what we have to offer a candidate for the job. Big Club set up and facilities. Fantastic crowd who will be happy to get behind a new man (if results are even reasonable). The chance to make a name for yourself by waking up this 'sleeping (ie comatose) giant' of a club. It will be easier to attract Players in the Ch/Sp than it was in The Prem. Get this right, and you have it made. Somewhere out there is someone with the ambition to do what Brian Clough did when he went to Derby. It's up to our owner and his Board to find him. So far, we have had little luck with our many Managerial appointments. A change is long overdue. If Mr Short wants his money back, he just has to get it right this time.
No no no but the link is football gossip - - no no no no no he would only be short term - no no no not wanted here - he would cause further damage to us in reputation and media image far outweighing any on field success he may achieve
Warnock was definitely my least favourite opposition manager this season, he beat Cardiff comfortably both times, but this old **** whined and bitched endlessly both times about the referees not doing their job and hilariously tried to make out they were the best time both time. Steer clear, hes a knackered old whining has-been who teams at the bottom of the championship get in for a few months when theres no one good available. He also has no eyebrows.
We were big in footballs early days but we haven't been a giant for about a century now. If we are a sleeping giant than that must apply to at least 20 other teams in England. I'm not sure where you get the idea it will be easier to attract players in the Championship? Surely everybody wants to be playing in the Premiership. I agree about the facilities and support, both fantastic and surely the best in our new league. The managers we are being linked with is worrying though and is telling me that we might not be the catch we think we are. McInnes, Clough and Warnock, all seem to be our legitimate targets. All of them seem to be as bad as each other to me. There's no queue of top managers seemingly wanting the job.
Cause it's too big a job. Not in the sense of it's a 'big club' in the sense that the club is a mess and most managers know it's way beyond their capabilities to produce under these conditions. Hard to see how we can get a manager good enough without a huge financial incentive. By the look of the shortlist we've no intention of meeting such a financial package. What we're left with are options of huge risk imo.
I still have no problem with Warnock he is about our level and I think he would do canny if he got the chance ask Rotherham fans who they would of preferred last season.
Obviously not as clear as I intended. In The Prem, it seems to have been hard to get top players to come here. Among the many and varied reasons given has been the lack of top shops to pander to the requirements of their 'WAGS' We can only compete against the bright lights of the big Cities by paying over the top and there are limits as to how much was available. This problem doesn't seem to apply so much in The Ch/Sp. Ambitious 'Championship Players', will see us, I hope, as a way to the Prem and want to join us. This compares to Prem players seeing us as a way to The Championship and not wanting to join us.
You can argue that that's predominantly down to money. If you pay them enough they'll come, it's the way most mercenary footballers are nowadays. I think you're basically saying that SAFC are now in a big fish/smaller pond scenario?
