He'll be sacked when we're lavishing mid-table in the Championship. Sure Ellis will want to come back first shot at it.
Right choice IMO This relegation is death by a thousand cuts - a culmination of cr ap since Bruce decided to dismantle his own (good) team way back when. Moyes just happens to be the current incumbent
Fair enough, although I disagree. I think Moyes has been poor and that all of his predecessors, going back to O'Neill have shown more ability than he has. What I'd genuinely like to know from anyone who still thinks Moyes is the man for the job is: What are the qualities that make you think he is capable of getting us promoted next season? What positive impact has made at the club? What tactical or technical capability has he shown? What do you think he has done better than Allardyce, Advocaat, Poyet, or di Canio? In short, why does he still have your backing?
I've a feeling that Short will be more of a factor next season than Moyes will be, in terms of your chances of an instant return to the PL. I recall arguing the toss over the Championship last season around this point, there seems to be a weird sort of expectation that the Championship is much tougher than the PL or something, the facts are that it is of worse quality, most of the teams are terrible by any PL club's standard and most managers should be able to manipulate their way through 46 games and get promotion, if the squad is good enough. Your current squad is good enough, it just depends who leaves and more importantly, who they're replaced by... that's where Short can make Moyes' job relatively easy or very difficult.
Moyes has done little to inspire confidence so far, just the opposite in fact, but if Short is as good as his word then hopefully we should bounce back up, this is the best we can hope for imo, as like most of the fans I talk to, I think we are as good as down. If Moyes has not got us playing well and in contention by next Xmas, then I think the fans will turn big time on the manager and he will go, its all to play for and will be very interesting no matter what happens. Its rarely dull supporting Sunderland.
He's shown willingness to bring on the youth players and give them a fair go if they're good enough. Other than that I've got nothing. Dat face doe.
The Sunderland echo is a pile of ****. Daft ****s get nothing right . You telling me if Sunderland doesn't win any of the last 10 games the bloke will keep his job do me a favour.
Just out of interest who would take his place though? If you go down you won't be able to attract a top manager and you'll struggle to get better than him if he gets the boot. Would you rather have Moyes, or be relegated and end up with some perennial second tier duffer like Robert Di Matteo, Alan Curbishley, Neil Warnock, Gary Megson, etc?
We going down and my opinion the man isn't even good enough to get us back up. Can't think of one positive the bloke brings to the tablet. Can You? Like I said before. I rather have Warnock in the championship than moyes.
Indeed. The potential prestigious appointments also include former England manager, and European finalist Steve McLaren.
Warnock's had his day, just ends up at a different championship team each year when they sack their manager and can find a decent replacement. Done absolutely nothing of note for the last 5 years+. Might as well bring in Ian Holloway if you'll settle for Warnock. Moyes has experience building and scrapping and being successful in lower leagues from his time at Preston, you basically need a whole new team for the champ, and given the right financial backing, he could build something decent. Whilst I'm not saying Moyes is great, I don't see the logic in just replacing him with a generic second tier journeyman manager. Moyes should at least be given some time in the champ to see if he can turn things around, yes if you're performing badly after a few months, sack him then, but not before.
Of course a Newcastle fan would say give him more time. The bloke has wasted close to 30m on pure ****. I don't trust the bloke with any more money sorry. I don't know one Sunderland fan what thinks moyes is the right man. If moyes and short is still here for next season I'll say we be lucky to get 20,000 next season.
Not saying he's definitely the right man, I'm just saying there's not necessarily a better option out there. Who do you think you could realistically attract who would be a definite improvement? If the best options are Warnock and Holloway, I'd rather have Moyes in your position.
Moyes had/has a reputation for being tactically and technically adept. He had/has a reputation for knowing the transfer market inside out. In both of those regards he has displayed no ability or talent during his time with Sunderland. He was good enough to be appointed manager of Manchester United not so long ago. Just because he's done it once does not necessarily mean that he can do it again. Furthermore, he never got Preston North End promoted to the Premier League so what basis is there for suggesting he can do it with Sunderland? But the best options aren't Warnock and Holloway are they? There are numerous good managers out of work across Europe who could come in and organise and build a team. Had you heard of David Wagner before this season?
