Comm,I am originally from Sunderland and lived in Hylton Castle for duration of my child life.Left to join airforce when I was 17 and a half.Still support the lads but due to ill health have not been able to get to any matches.Living in Horsham, used to get to all London games plus Brighton,Portsmouth,Reading,Southampton etc but even local matches are not easy for me to attend. Got a mate here who is 73 and is born and bred Surrey boy ( Capel, near Dorking). He started supporting Sunderland when he was about 10,on the strength of winning 10 bob on a scratch card, after he chose Sunderland. To this day he still supports them and was at the SOL for the Spurs game recently (his daughter supports Spurs). Oh and as an aside,I have seen the Cauld Lad of Hylton and I dont mean the pub
From Shields, therefore SAFC or the mags. A no-brainer, if ever there was one. As the black & white no-brains will confirm, for a bite of your Greggs...
Born in Bill Quay, a few miles from the Heworth Metro Station, my dad was born in Thornley and used to travel by bus in the 1930s to Roker Park on football specials like most of the Durham pit villages did. Just followed my dad as my five brothers did, although we lived closer to Newcastle I never considered them as an option to go and support, and I still feel the same nearly 60 years later.
Born in Town End Farm. No choice but to support Sunderland, it being my home town. I expect I'm one of the few to see Sunderland play in a European competition: against Vasas Budapest in 1974 Cup Winners Cup. Don't think I'll see the next time at this rate!
Sunderland born and bred - lived north side (Thompson Rd) then south side (Chester Road) -a very proud mackem with hope in my heart. Sadly thats all hope without any real football success but rarely any dull mid table mediocrity Lucky to have good health post 60
I saw that match too, little did we know then that it looks like my lot for my lifetime, SAFC the club that keeps on disappointing, I often wonder why we bother.
Fife is a lovely place. Although sadly, I was born in Kirkcaldy which is, essentially, the gorillas armpit of the county.
