From being regarded as one of the best keepers in the Premier League for a stumbling Cardiff City side in that one "season in the sunshine" a couple of years back, he's become the fall guy at Hull since his transfer. I noted this piece being reported after their game last night........ David Marshall has now played 14 Premier League games for Hull without a clean sheet. Only two goalkeepers have played more games for a Premier League club before keeping a clean sheet - Julian Speroni at Crystal Palace (16 games) and John Ruddy at Norwich (20 games). Is it Marshie's fault or are Hull worse at the back than we were when we were up there? Whatever, I bet he's a bit pissed off at the moment. No disrespect to young Amos as his replacement for us, where could we be in the Champ table right now if Marshie had stayed? Maybe not beyond half way, but probably half a dozen points better off.
An unfortunate decision for Marshall. Hindsight is a a wonderful thing. Letting two keepers go close together was also a mistake on our part. Just watched Aberdeen and Hearts (well, it was on in the background). Joe Lewis looking sharp. One Don Cowie busying himself in midfield as well.
Marshall would have not made any difference to the last 2 games at least; all goals were down to woeful defending. Amos blundered for Wolves' opener but atoned with a good block to keep us 1-1. Marshall like all keepers are prone to errors and when they make them they look worse. Amos went walkabout for Barnsley's 3rd but I have seen Marshall do that. Murphy made some decent stops at Brentford but a taller keeper would have kept out their 1st. NW needs, as we all appreciate, to get a really decent keeper in but it won't be easy.
