Crucial. The temptation is to keep feeling better so one drinks more. You go to bed afterwards [if you're not already in it] and end up feeling absolutely wretched. That's not the way. Some control and getting to a nicely lubricated state whereby it's time to stop and go to sleep, with plenty of ventilation, is the idea. Have plenty of water around too, in a glass. You wake up with little or no headache, no hangover, feeling ill, but knowing that you temporarily put off feeling ghastly. And if you still feel under the weather the next evening you can repeat the experience. It can make an awful time feel a bit better.
And truthfully, if you mean proper flu or proper bronchitis, then you might be that close to death's door that you shouldn't go near alcohol. Just cough, splutter, and wrap yourself up so warm that it would be utterly cosy in any other circumstance. And just ride it out with proper medication and soup. Might be a week or more. Flu can be a real sod if not taken seriously, as it can lead to other serious things. Can be a proper people killer.
My bronchitis was rough and took about 2-3 weeks to recover (several inhalers and a course of antibiotics helped after a week of suffering). I've had proper Flu twice and it's in a completely different league to bronchitis. Unable to even stand for 5 days straight; the last thing I wanted was alcohol in any form. One of the very few things to genuine annoy me is people who claim a heavy cold to be Flu. Heavy colds can be bad but as you say Flu is an actual killer.
Yeah, I've had actual flu. Influenza. The real thing. It totally ****ed me for two weeks with complications over three, and I didn't actually get back to real 100% normal for 12 months. As you say, when people often say they have had flu, it's usually just a slightly uncomfortable bad cold where they've been surprised that it took them out of their usual routine. We've all had those. That's not flu. That's just a bad cold and fever. About 10 years ago an elder brother had flu and it affected his heart, so that it lost autonomic control of the beat. His heart began racing at 150-180 beats per minute whilst he was sitting and doing nothing. it was a similar complication that PM Tony Blair had after an illness. Anyway, my brother had an operation and they steadied his heart, but it all came about because he didn't take his flu symptoms seriously.
I agree about the pure breed bit , Toby is cream British short hair and has eye problem , Jasper is silver tabby( BSH ) / black Persian cross , has always had issues , Purdey bless her, is just a normal moggy , only has issues now as she is in her 18th year . Lovely to hear about your Cat thanks .
Actually, if you want another suggestion, try wine soup. Google it if needed but it's an old Chinese thing. Chicken stock and port. An amazing pick me up.
Had flu twice...you never mistake anything else for it again. And the fact he is on the forum suggests it isn't flu. However, if it is not flu, I agree distraction is the thing. And a single whisky and ginger is always good....even if not ill. One proviso....don't suffer too long without seeking advice...most infections don't last a long time.
Spoiler: Game of Thrones Really good episode in that there were lots of references and some good exposition. Still a bit teleporty but with the amount they are revealing I think that's fair enough. I'm interested to know if any show only watchers picked up on the huge reveal during Sam and Gilly's chat about steps, windows and **** convo. As a book reader it was pretty nice although they covered it up as much as possible. Annoys me that we have not seen Ghost and it doesn't look like he's going with the Suicide Squad because of budget.
The Walnut whip is staying , they are just trying other things . http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-40947322
