The problem is not a lack of food. I saw a map the other day of regions in Africa with food shortages and regions with wars (civil or otherwise). Exact match. Stopping food going to the civilians on your enemy's side is a good tactic as it causes problems for your enemy. Add in the tariffs, thefts and general corruption you can manage under war conditions and you have a perfect storm. Stopping the conflicts is the solution. Vin
Archeologists have found WWI training tunnels and trenches on Salisbury Plain: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-wiltshire-39696077 Must admit that, until only a few years ago, I was only dimly aware of how much simulation went on in everyday UK for war by the military. There are also practice trenches and tunnels in Kent and Essex. Locally, just up the road within the New Forest, are several WWII airfields, several which are clearly still evident, but also practice bomb run zones for aircraft. Zones to test munitions with plenty of bomb and explosives craters, and even a lifesize replica of German submarine pens, typically built in French ports, which the RAF tried to bomb out of existence, but couldn't. They still exist in the Forest because they couldn't scratch those either.
In many cases in Africa, there is conflict, and yep, it is a tactic to prevent food supplies getting through to your enemy. But the main driver of this Somalian famine is drought. It was drought in their last famine and it is so this time. I'm not sure whether it is climactic and geographical or simply because there is a lack of infrastructure. Probably both. Crop production is down 75% annually and the forecasts for rain are not favourable. On top of this it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if food aid is being limited or prevented.
I was taught "talar", but you're right - I'm good at saying "talar du engelska, jag kan inte prata svenska sa bra" - but then I'm pretty good at that in many languages - for example, my best Spanish is "lo siento, no habla espanol", but I know the word for "beer" in at least 10 languages .....
https://uk.yahoo.com/style/spanish-hotels-could-scrap-inclusive-170106779.html Some Spanish hotels withdrawing full board holidays for British tourists because of false food poisoning claims. Lots of people make false insurance claims for luggage etc already. Shameful. I have a sensitive stomach and frequently have stomach upsets whilst abroad, but would never even dream of making a claim. I can understand if you are on a cruise where everyone goes down with it....suggesting some negligence. Some may call it pulling a fast one....I call it what it is... theft.
Oh my goodness, I thought of this idea about 20 years ago, when email arrived to put pressure on the postal service. My immediate after-thought was that the postal service would quickly die out in terms of regular letter post through the door [not parcels, they'd grow in number], so what was the point of thinking it through too far. And then I read of this development in Jersey. This kind of initiative just makes you think there are people out there who give a toss. It's simple, it's humanitarian. And it probably saves money rather than costs, if it is properly integrated : http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-39531395
I know! Global warming? They're having a laugh! Gone very dark here now, reckon it's only a matter of time .....
