Boxing day, 3pm, at Old Trafford, Henrikh Mkhitaryan are back for the game, Luke Shaw is the only player out for us.
It's so frustrating to see how good we are at moving the ball through 90% of the pitch, right up to the edge of the opposition area... and then completely run out of ideas - no movement in the box, no runners in behind, nobody making any passes that find a player in space, just nothing.
Aha ha first time we get 5/6 players INTO their box and actually have a couple of them running at the defence.... and we score. Quelle ****ing surprise 1-0 how about we try that again for a 2nd goal...
Pogba is becoming quite a figure for the team. He works tirelessly and every play seem to go through him. He could have had three goals yesterday.
If he had scored at least 10 goals more (goodness knows he's had enough shots on target) he would have been the business, otherwise he's not too bad.
Imo it's not the worst situation if he isn't firing straight away. When a player comes in and flies out the blocks, a la Hernandez and Anderson in their first seasons for us, there's always a risk that the only way will be down, and once that happens the player will struggle mentally and stop trying. When it doesn't come easy and the player needs to work hard and learn before their success, a la Ronaldo, Vidic and Evra, you are more likely to get a player who understands the importance of working for the team and turns out better in the long run. Fingers crossed, but that looks like the way Pogba is going as the season progresses.
It is encouraging that his buys are (so far) good enough to be in the first 11. As someone said earlier LVG for all his experience brought players who ultimately were no good enough (or were not confirmed to be). Schneideling, Bastian, Depay, Pogba is still finding his way. He is getting into shooting positions and providing assists but is not scoring enough imo. Hopefully this will come. Bailly and Zlatan have slotted in and performed to expectations so far. Mikhi should (fingers crossed) get a good run in the team. Reminds me a bit of Scholes. For the first time in ages, we rarely face an opposition and feel that section for section we are outgunned.
