Mark Ashton confirms Bristol City have more business to do during the transfer window

Mark Ashton and Lee Johnson have spoken openly of their intention to further add to the squad during January.

The Robins have already recruited Jens Hegeler, Milan Djuric and Bailey Wright, and are in the market for more new players this month.

A dismal return of nine defeats in 11 games has served to focus minds at Ashton Gate and there is scope for at least another two new arrivals between now and the January 31 transfer deadline.

Chief operating officer Ashton told The Post: "We are very focused on the here and now and recent results have concentrated our minds. We know we need to win football matches.


"If there are players on our radar who become available and fit our criteria, we will be in the market for them. But they have to be players who will make us better.

"We've hit a run of bad games and any new players have to tick the right boxes for us in terms of technique, height and experience."

Having strengthened the spine of the team already in this transfer window, City are now looking to improve their options in wide positions.

As well as a winger, the Robins are also in the market for a full-back, and Rosenborg defender Jonas Svensson has been linked with a possible move to the English second tier.

Asked if further signings were likely before the window closes, head coach Johnson commented: "There are a couple of positions we feel can be bolstered and we're looking. We're still in the mix, we're still in the market."
