Apparently Virgil was in Euro Disney yesterday......cue the PSG rumours

 

We can dream...PSG pay stupid (I mean realistic ) money. TBH.....my first choice is to keep him, torture him and grind his bones into bread....but as that is apparently illegal...sell him to a foreign club....quickly.

I do feel we need to insert "needs of the club" clauses into contracts. The sight of VVD serving pies or selling programmes in the concourse is appealing.

 

A statement made about practically every player who has had the audacity to want to join another club since we got promoted back to the PL

I'm not at all angry at VVD for wanting away. It doesn't appear that he's actually refused to play either rather that MP has kicked him into touch. Liverpool are the villains here.

I agree. If he wants away then fair enough but you need to find another buyer who'll meet the asking price given the circumstances over this one.

 

Most certainly, Liverpool and their respective ex-players in the media, of which there are several, have all made their comments known, to the extent that VVD could be said to have been got at. He's most certainly had his head turned.

We've been a laughing stock for years

 

That's a bit harsh. Most football people think we've done an incredible job over the last five years.

 

That is so untrue...we are not a laughing stock...we have been a successful club on the field and from a financial POV. Most football clubs would love to be us. Fans are too sensitive....if we just changed the way we look at things, we should be proud of Southampton. We are not at the top of the league, but very few teams are. Going round hanging your heads just feeds WUMs...hold your heads up for goodness sake.

 

Here here. I am proud of what we have achieved and also the way we have done it. Don't forget where we were, a very few years ago and what almost became of us.

Oh I agree, back in 2009 when the new owners were chatting about European football I laughed at the idea. and they delivered. Our rise has been nothing short of spectacular, but when you hit the heights we have your "rivals" become some of the biggest clubs about which, simply, we can't compete with. Some of our fans will bitch and moan when we sell players but we really aren't in the same category as the teams who are buying our players. I live in Bristol and am the only Saints fan in my friend group, everybody I know looks on us as a laughing stock. The majority are supporters of "big" clubs, and whenever anyone does anything of note for Saints they instantly just say "well thats him off in the summer", which tbf they are probably right about. But we have hit our glass ceiling and to even get there was a very good effort in itself.

 

So really, what you mean is that people in your friend group think we're a laughing stock.

Tell them we're not and hold your head high. If you read and listen to real football people, you'd see we are far from a laughing stock. There is no club of our size who would not swap with our last few years.... ok, one: Leicester.

Going back to your post, it was your words in one sentence. Do you really think we are a laughing stock?

 

Again it all comes down to your expectations. If you expect us to be competing every year for a European place then we are a laughing stock as we can't keep hold of our best players and sell them to direct rivals. If your expectations are us to be a mid table side then we have done a fantastic job in getting to where we have done despite selling our best players. I personally am in the "we are a mid table team" category so I am fine with where we are and the fact that Liverpool/Spurs/Chelsea/Arsenal fans are taking the piss means we must have done something right.

I can understand fans who lose interest because we aren't, and in the short term at least, probably won't ever be competing for "major" honurs (I don't consider the League Cup as major). But that is football as a whole, not just Saints
