I agree and Ralph spoke of the principle of the thing. Usually in football when someone says principle they mean money, but not in this case. He spoke of wanting to change attitudes towards Saints as we are going in a different direction. I still sense that the board are steaming about being treated with such disrespect by another club and a player....as if Liverpool only had to snap their fingers. I can't see Virgil being here long term and I can't see Mauricio tolerating a sulker in his training sessions. Virgil is on the naughty step and will be made to suffer before we release him. Saints probably don't expect to lose money on him, but are prepared to do so to remind other clubs and players that we are capable of making a stand.

And there's me thinking after that statement Virgil was going to head in to train with his tail between his legs & start trying to win people around. I may have over estimated him.

That would imply that he has done something wrong, in his mind he will be the wounded party not the club, his team mates and us the fans

I don't know VVD personally so cannot guess how he will jump, but it takes a rare man who can climb down, admit defeat and then give his best. Usually someone has to be desperate for money to do that. I wouldn't be surprised if he cut off his nose to spite his face.

I think its why my love for Morgan grew in that last season. A good human he is.

My Everton supporting mate text me yesterday saying Schneiderlin is class, finally come round to my way of thinking despite me telling him for years how good he is and him saying Cleverly was better.

Morgan knuckled down, so it has been done before.
Yet my admiration for the lad never quite climbed back up to its previous height.

It's not for nothing that pride is considered the first of the 7 deadly sins.

    http://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/fo...-van-Dijk-Chelsea-target-John-Collins-opinion

John Collins says VVD shouldn't have signed a long contract without a buy out clause...has overlooked that such things are rare in England. The question I would ask is why Virgil thought it was such a great deal,,,,and totally changed his mind in a few months. Obviously wanted the extra money and security, but then realised suddenly that he was a 'genius' and worth far more.

Can't we just sell Van Dijk to Barca and cut out the middle man?

Just read on another forum a Liverpool fan saying that they are doing to Barca what we have done to them with VVD. And someone else commented that Liverpool have far more to lose than us as we would finish roughly in the same position with or without VVD, but if Coutinho decides to sit til January it would completely undermine Liverpools season and could cost them big time so they should sell. I'm inclined to agree

Fair play, they're definitely milking Barca for all they can.
I can see Coutinho getting frustrated about them turning down a more than fair valuation. Even in today's market

And damage their champions league chances.
Not to mention they don't look like they are bringing in someone else in his position just in case he refuses to play

I can understand the Liverpool argument. If anyone says their coutinho price is mad they will point to us. At least our reference is what Stones went for (and how VVD is far far better). They can't seriously believe they should be using neymar's value as a benchmark for coutinho. But it appears to be exactly what they are doing

I would also suggest that coutinho will be far more upset that Virgil. Virgil will eventually get his move and perhaps to a better club than Liverpool e.g if a big European club has a bad season or if the new man united defender does not settle. Also if Liverpool continue their defensive shambles they won't be champions league again.

In coutinho's I am not convinced Barcelona will come calling again . And he might be worried about the same
