Liverpool v. Swansea City Barclays Premier League Date - Saturday 21 January 2017 Kick off - 12:30 Venue - Anfield The matches don't get any easier for Paul Clement's beleaguered Swansea City team. Following their 0-4 defeat at home to Arsenal, the Swans' next match is against title chasing Liverpool at Anfield. The day after Swansea's capitulation at the hands of the Gunners, Jurgen Klopp's team secured a creditable 1-1 draw away at Old Trafford, a result that puts them in 3rd place in the table, level on points with Spurs but 7 points behind leaders Chelsea. Swansea, meantime, are rooted at the bottom of the table - a mere 30 points behind Klopp's men. If Swans Manager Paul Clement didn't realise what a tough job he has on his hands trying to retain PL status, he must do now following the disappointing 0-2 FA Cup defeat against (then) bottom Hull City and the 0-4 reverse against Arsene Wenger's Arsenal. The Swans squad is in need of strengthening and it will be interesting to see who may join during the course of this week - Tom Carroll and Martin Olsson are both rumoured to be joining Luciano Narsingh who signed last week. Swansea and Liverpool have met on 40 previous occasions, with the Swans winning 10, Liverpool 22 & 8 draws. In the corresponding fixture last season, the Swans lost 0-1. Jurgen Klopp picked up his first league win at Anfield as James Milner's second-half penalty gave Liverpool the points in a stale game against Swansea. Milner converted after Swans full-back Neil Taylor was penalised for handball. Looking ahead to Saturday, my head says that Liverpool should run out comfortable winners by (at least) 3 goals, but my heart says that the Swans are going to evoke the spirit and memories of the Swans team that went to Anfield on 29th February 1964 for an away FA Cup Quarter Finals match and came away shock 2-1 winners. So I'm going 2-1 to the Swans! (Think I will go for a lie down now ......)
Unfortunately it will be 30 mins of resistance and then another capitulation, cant see anything other than another 3 or 4 goal hammering.
I would love Taff's prediction to be right but I think it will be nearer to the 1971 FA cup game I saw at Anfield where St John came on as sub turned the game and we lost 3-0
Now Bob a jobs gone I think the terrible hiding we were going to have will just be a hiding now 4-1 if we at least hold out with the tidy play against arse we saw sat, if we can carry that play and bust a gut using all the **** fitness in the team to last at least we'll into the second half then it's anyone's to lose !
The only plus is that our other 3 basement-dwelling colleagues also have a good chance of losing - hence no ground lost. Maybe.
U23s beat Newcastle 3-1 tonight with McBurnie getting a hat trick - I expect he will feature on the bench again on the weekend.
I hope Clements making the A team watch our u23 teams games ! Be good for them to see some regular swans goal scoring and defending !
I plan on making sure the Liverpool bus breaks down and they won't be able to get to the stadium so they'll have to forfeit the match
Naughton --- vdHoorn --- Fernandez --- Olsson Naughton --- Fernandez ---- Mawson ---- Kinglsley Rangel --- vdHoorn --- Mawson --- Naughton Doesn't matter does it? Liverpool 3 (if the take it easy), 4 (if they play as expected), 5+ (if they turn it on) - 0 Swansea (with zero shots on target) The closest we'll get to them will be in the tunnel before kick-off. Cant see us getting anything out of this game, not even a performance.
Giving our age away now as I was at that one. My memory is of Tommy Smith tight marking Herbie and hammering him in the back with his fist. The ref never saw or ignored it of course..
Now we know the signings my team Fabianski Rangel Fernandez Mawson Olsson Carroll Siggy Fulton Narsingh Mcburnie Routledge?Dyer Take your choice of Dyer or Routledge both not the players they were but with different attributes. Keep it tight and try and hit them with pace on the counter. If Plymouth could do it so can we. This is no time for pretty football a point would be a bonus.
