What did people expect moyes to do? Play expansive football? Try to win?

The defensive display was the only sensible thing that he could have done and he nearly pulled it off. To castigate him in his situation is just daft.

No one is? Klopp was just explaining have to be patient as they came to play defensive. Not the first won't be the last this year. But maybe just explaining to fans that we won't score 5 goals every game and to stay with the players in 70ty minute if it's still 0-0

ita different when it's united with 400m worth f players in first 11 compared to Sunderland

    nahhhhh.. moyes played 0.75 strikers

they had the opportunity to go with a 2 banks of 4 and push the big lump up with defoe and at least press LFC CBs back into their own half.

what he guy did was ultra negative were as 2 tight banks of 4 vacating the wings would have done just as well against us but could have given them an out ball more than they had.

Long may teams be so negative IMO as we won't get done on the counter. If teams wise up and see the amount of space there is to counter in they will come with a better game plan and potentially do for us.

Yes but on flip side, they'll expose more space by trying to counter and when attacking so if we can then win the ball back quickly will have great chance to score more goals.

not if they go for two forwards and 2 tight banks of 4.

they can release say two midfielders on counter and hold 6 back if they like.

My thought is to counter LFc the first place to stat is make karius, lovren and matip uncomfortable. It was ridiculous at times how far into opposition half they two CBs were cos sunderland allowed it. Matip was virtually playmaker midfielder.

Moyes: I'm not here to entertain you
Sunderland manager David Moyes has responded to Jurgen Klopp’s remarks about the defensive-minded nature of his side against the Reds.
    The former Everton boss said:
“My job was not to come here and entertain the Anfield crowd, my job was to come here and get a result for Sunderland.
“We had to try and do that. We didn’t do that but tried hard to.”

But it's game management. Defence aren't that high if opposition are countering on consistent basis. It's only because Sunderland couldn't get out their own half that defence could push up so much, which also in turn helped keep the pressure on them.

Its all ifs and buts, but say Sunderland try be more attacking, end up sacrificing a midfielder which opens more space for us to attack, we get an early goal which draws them out more and end up winning 5-0 like against hull

yes exactly. More positive outlook from sunderland pushes us back.

sunderland didn't even really give themselves any out as we could mop them up.
If you had seen the big lump and defoe together they could have held it up and allowed them get up the pitch.

Mind you ok watford has two big lumps and they got trashed.

yes you need someone with a modicum of ability to play a ball that they two can work off bit IMO its all about intent.

you can defend very well AND be a threat... but if you park the bus then what happens is you see what happened to sunderland once we scored. they just opened up but we were spent. had we scored on 50mins not how late we did they'd have been hockeyed anyway

Despite parking the bus, Sunderland got into very dangerous positions and should have done better had it not been for Karius.

We have improved our defence to some degree but it's still weak.

I agree. Teams like Sunderland, United and Southampton have to play to their strengths and expectations.
