Yes I was being lighthearted, but with a little hidden message that the election was so close Cameron could have formed his coalition or called another election and we know what happened. The rest is now in the history book.
I doubt that there is anybody on here who is less appreciative of Politicians, (local or National), than I am but that is only about 99.9999% true. There are, very occasionally, good people who really want to make a difference to improve the lot of us peasants. They fail of course. After all what can half a dozen or so do in the face of the self interest of the other 644 (I'm thinking of The Commons). In Sunderland we HAD examples of, at the same time, the best and the worst of MP's. There was Chris Mullins, famous for being so honest he only claimed for a black and white TV Licence on his expenses and Bill Etherington who was famous for making the fewest appearance's and asking the fewest questions year after year. In reality the Lib Den's SHOULD do well. The Public dislikes the political extremes and prefers the middle ground. As a result, for example, whenever the Labour Party jumps to the far left, their vote drops. A nicer more earnest and good intentioned man that Michael Foot you couldn't find but Fred Public wouldn't vote in numbers for him. The present leader, whiles not having Michaels charisma, suffers in the same way. Tony Blair though, occupied the middle ground so comfortably that you couldn't tell him apart from a Tory. He kept them out for years, as much because they had lurched to the right as his own policies. This middle road should belong to The Lib Dems. Sadly though they are too welded to party doctrine to grasp the opportunity. The European thing is a good example. That vote was lost. WE the PEOPLE decided. But they wont accept it and continue to bleat on. Frankly they don't deserve to win. They were though, mostly, quite useful in a coalition, as long as they were kept away from important posts. I have a set rule about elections. Always vote for the side not in power. It keeps the beggars on their toes. (I broke this rule for Mr Mullins)
Nice to see someone stand by their convictions As for the the Liberals being the middle of the road, they're hardly that. Some of their policies are quite radical.
