That being said, there were some positives. Koscielny put in an excellent defensive display and Holding looked much more comfortable today. Monreal had a decent game, too. We looked (marginally) more threatening when Ozil came on and Wilshere showed some intent going forward. I'm clutching at straws a bit here when talking about us going forward, as we created bugger all, but I need to have some hope for the remaining 36 games.
Overall a poor performance. Kos and Holding did well and deserve credit though. As does Cech for keeping us in the game. We need to be much much better than this though. I think we'll gain momentum as the season progresses, but why oh why do we go into seasons so badly prepared ?!!!
Walcott had two fairly good chances towards the end. One where he tried to find the opposite corner and one where he tried to chip Schmiecel. But I agree, attacking wise we were useless
I think Clattenburg must have thought it was shoulder to shoulder and not seen the contact between the feet. Otherwise don't know how he doesn't call it.
- Sanchez is definitely not a striker, and unfortunately what Wenger doesnt realize is by playing him there, we arnt only weaker in the striking department, but also in the regular position Sanchez plays, as he is the best there. - We REALLY REALLY need a proper striker... - We look a LOT better with Ozil on. - A lot of our players are still lacking proper match fitness...
The fact that you've dropped 5 points on like for like games last season doesn't help the fans and players morale. Think you beat Pool 3 nil last season and Leicester 5-2. So you've scored 5 less, conceded 2 more and have 5 less points. You deservedly and easily won both games last season but this season are lucky to get 1 point.
We drew the home game with Liverpool last season, but we should have won it and had a goal incorrectly ruled out. Overall though, very poor start from us.
Arsene Wenger post-match response: On clubs spending big money: "What matters to me is that you have 600 employees and can afford to pay them." um...what?? my goodness this is not a proper manager's response...
Is this guy doing this on purpose now? Wenger could turn out to be the greatest troll of all time, or he just becoming senile...
Wenger is not the chairman or CEO. He shouldn't be concerning himself with the wages of club employees other than the players. His job is to make the team challenge in the pitch. This is all he should be concentrating on.
Evidence if any were needed that what happens on the pitch is not the main priority at this club, anyone know how the share price is doing.
At this point, I would do anything and everything just to make sure he doesn't extend his contract at the end of the season. It's hard enough as it is, don't want yet another 2-3 years of this rubbish.
I think it is the main priority, but clearly too much weight is given to other areas that then impact on success on the pitch.
Yep, was subbed after around 75 mins for Wilshere. Xhaka did okay, fairly solid without being amazing.
