For all you large headed people. My laptop is ****ed and to be honest was hopeless from the day I had it. I am looking to change it, I don't want to spend lots about £500, I only use it to browse and pictures and music. Anyone give me an idea as to what laptop would suit me best, I have an Acer now and will never have one again. so advice please.

My Acer aspires on its last legs but it's worked well in the 8 years I've had it so had monies worth, but new battery last year and i strip n fit new power inline recently and was looking at detachable laptop, tablets earlier but decent ones start around a grand so sod that, il wait till it dies then look at big memory with long guarantee,
I've had 3 Acer Iconia tablets since December and they all went faulty this one's going back too when the Samsung Galaxy S2 arrives .

I think I remember!beer seeing a lenova yoga laptop that looked good earlier ?

It all depends what you want to use it for. Processor, ram, HDsize.

There`s a couple of guides here:

    http://www.wikihow.com/Build-a-Laptop-Computer

    http://www.computershopper.com/feature/build-your-own-laptop

They are about building from scratch, but it gives you an idea of what you may or may not need.

A good place to look is:

    https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/

They have a pretty good service, well I`ve found them pretty good. You could also look at what`s on offer at Ebay, sometimes have good offers on there from reputable sources.

Both Acer and Lenovo dominate the market both coming out of china etc, but it's not the brand as much as the engine, so whether you go for Acer, Lenovo, HP etc, make sure you get the minimum spec to do the job, and that would be as follows:

CPU: Intel i5 or i7 Quad core/ AMD A10 Quad core

    Memmory: 8 Gig (Nothing less)

GPU: Nvidia/AMD/(Intel above 6000) Dedicated Memory preferable.

Display: for home use should be 17" IPS, though 15" will do.

make sure that your power settings are on Performance, as all manufactures set it by default to balance...........................<ok>

When you look at the bottom task bar in the right hand corner you will see icons, one will be the battery/charging icon, right click on it with the right mouse button and select power settings, then make sure it is on performance.

If you do not see the performance option, then select the 'more options' button.

The other option is to go to Control panel and select the icon 'Power options'..... <ok>

You might like 'Windows mobility centre' it is also in control panel, creating a shortcut on your desktop might be useful to you, it has some easy access control for laptops, including 'power options'.

Of course there are many other ways of tuning up your machine, firstly how often do you clean your hard drive of garbage?

Use disk cleaner to remove the rubbish, it's in Control panel, then defrag your hard drive with windows defrag tool, this should be done once week.

Ok clever clogs, how do I do that, which I might add I have never done. I think I have done that performance thing, but how do I know if it worked.

If you have set your machine to performance, then the CPU will be running at peak performance, but you really need to identify the CPU technology that you have eg, Intel i5 or i7 etc, The information can be found in device manager.

Do you know the basic type of machine you have? If it's AMD or INTEL? How much Ram does it have? How old is the machine? better still give me the model number, I'll look it up for you!........<laugh>
