His leadership skills are outstanding, i think that he should be offered a goalkeeping coach role when he retires................ thoughts ?
He shouldn't have let it in, he's been a great servent etc and i dont like to get on his back but it happens too much imo
2nd Goal - How Davis got beaten at his near post..??????????????????????????????????????????????????? Ok defence has to take some wrap for not closing the guy down earlier but in my eye's no keeper should be beat at the nearest post. School Boy error
I am not sure about the 2nd goal, Butts made the error and the ball took a significant deflection past KD, no, I will have to look at it more carefully on replay to make a judgement.
I think it was a deflected goal which kind of caught him wrong footed. He has been a good servant to the club but perhaps is a little slow on the uptake now. His distribution has improved wholesale. Although I do not think his brain is quite quick enough sometimes.
I haven't seen too many games recently, but Kelvin seemed to be playing further up the pitch today. He used to goal hang, now he's almost a sweeper. He looked confident as well, because when he came out for the ball I wasn't as scared as usual.
I think next season will be his last as first choice in my opinion, think bart will start pushing him, in the few games bart has played the last few seasons he's done well, and still young, JPT for example? didn't he play every game apart from the final? or maybe area finals too? i can't remember, but knew he had a run out in the cup.
Never seen him punch a ball like that. Very impressive. If we get to Championship, there will be a lot of decisions to be made about players. It often happens that players that get you promoted are replaced in the next League. I think KD will be kept as player, back-up and coach, but wouldn't be surprised if a new goalkeeper is got in later on. We have been lucky to have Bart as a good back up in League 1, but don't know if he will step up. If he can't get a game it's very hard to judge him. NA sees him on a day to day basis (when he's fit) so is the best judge.
so, back to the original topic. what do people think of kelvin being offered the goalkeepers coaching job here?
I admire his loyalty and skills and have no problem with it, but depends if there is a vacancy I guess.
He's a great guy and I'll always love him for turning down West Ham to stay wish us but next season we need a new number 1 to compete in the top level of the Championship if we get there.
It is not always a wise move to keep an ex long standing Pro as a coach for the first team. Most if they are kept on in that capacity do not coach first team players they are given a role with the reserves/youth. Then as those players progress through the ranks the coach goes through with them. As goal keepers in particular do not progress very well having different coaches, simply because there role is more static, although none the less specialised.
