Rangers and Celtic are probably League 1 standard at best.
Rest of the SPL League 2 standard.

Bit harsh TC agree its not that great but I always think that aside from Rangers & Celtic the rest of the SPL is on a par with the Championship hence when Bombers testimonial last year could have gone either way. <ok>

Think its fair to say that Hearts are the 3rd best SPL team. <ok>

Even when Celtic were beating Liverpool and man utd in Europe , none of you rated our game so just keep your opinion to yourself on something you know nothing about.

The reason Rangers and Celtic have failed in europe is thats it out of there comfort zone.
They know there can turn up most weeks and get a result with various levels of gas used. Not their fault but its not healthy for the game to have such weak opposition.
Where are the Dundee Utds, the Aberdeens of years past?
Hearts were absolutely terrible. I think the earlier poster was absolutely correct in his placement for SPL teams in the English leagues. I would like the Carling cup opened up to Scotland, i think that would liven up both competition and the scottish leagues.

Im amused by the McCoist and Lennnon. They are still bigging up the league but its a joke. No doubt next week in the SPL they will be saying how tough a game they have just played was but worked hard to get the 6-0 win.

No matter how well Scottish teams do against English the typical English man will laugh and sneer at us. Celtic when they won the European Cup, were not according to the English, were not Scottish but British.
Now Celtic Rangers and Hearts are Scottish.
If the UK Government rules even handedly then all teams in the UK would have their mouths in the one trough.
Both Blair and Cameron both preside only as far North of Adrian's Wall. England are glad to be part of Great Britain, when it suits them: sending troops out to war, building a team for the Olympics or taking advantage of gas around the shores. Why not insist in fair distribution of Tv football money?

I've always said the Scots wont get independence simply because of the oil revenues as no British Government would give them up and Labour have even more reason not too as they would lose at least 40 Westminster seats but the Tories wouldn't mind that for future elections as they have no foothold in Scotland.

On the football side of things, don't you fear that the SPL would collapse financially though as well as the whole Scottish football set up if Rangers & Celtic were ever allowed to quit Scotland and compete in England? It would do the two clubs good in the long run competing against better quality teams and their European campaigns would also benefit in the long run.

I've always thought that the revenue that the SPL generates with Rangers & Celtic involved from 50,000 & 60,000 sell outs from their home games as well as on the away games the smaller clubs get higher attendances simply because its the big two visiting simply couldn't be made up if they're allowed to compete here in England?

Surely the TV money would collapse as well as Sky & ESPN wouldn't want to buy the TV rights to games not involving the big two so that would be another issue as well? <ok>

Milwallsteve If a club like Millwall can continue to exist especially with the type of fans they attract. I cannot understand if the TV money was spread in a fair manner throughout the UK, as for example the oil revenue and fishing nets, then I cannot see why any Scottish team should suffer, in fact they should of course benefit.
All for one, when it belongs to the wee six, Scotland or Wales, one for all when it belongs to England.

Longshanks - The Carling Cup does need a revamp, most teams make so many changes and attendances have dropped in the early stages. So it could work, maybe regional for first round or two?

A country with about 10 times the population gets higher attendances? Who'd have thought it eh?

Fair comment superhoops but a lot of the Scottish lower league teams aren't even full time are they so they would surely go to the wall unless they find funding elsewhere whereas the second tier in England enjoys record attendances year on year something which the Scottish first division can't say. <ok>
