The number of jobs affected have not been specified. SAFC chief executive Martin Bain said: “In recent months we have undertaken a detailed review of the club’s entire operation. “It is clear that the business had lost its focus and we now have to ensure that we are better equipped to be able to concentrate on the areas that are key to taking Sunderland AFC forward. “Our infrastructure provides a tremendous platform and it is important that we capitalise on this by channeling our efforts into those areas that will have an impact. “We want to ensure that the football club is in the best possible position to grow stronger, both on and off the field. “The decisions have not been taken lightly. “The internal process required in order to undertake the changes has already commenced and club staff have been advised of the procedures and timescales involved.” Read more at: http://www.sunderlandecho.com/news/...rland-afc-as-club-fights-relegation-1-8401375 -------------------------------------------------------- Right after the lads have just come back from their trip in New York. How’s that for a kick in the teeth for the working people?
It is a kick in the teeth indeed, but a necessary evil when a business is hemorrhaging money sadly. Bain said months ago it was on the cards and here we are. Think i's more to do with efficiency to try to reduce losses rather than preparing for relegation as we got the heads up ages ago.
we can't sack them because it would cost us the same to sack them as it would to keep them so there would be no money saved there, then after that we'd have to replace them which means transfer fees, agent fees and singing on bonus' so sacking the players would do more damage than good.
It's been on the cards most definitely, regardless of whether we stop up or not. It's just really poor timing IMO.
Its never a good time for something like this is it. An awful kick in the teeth for some of the backroom staff. The business has lost it's focus. Bain's just making sure everyone knows who to blame there as well!
Of course it's not, that goes without saying. My point is that the lads have just been on an all expenses trip to New York - two days later this happens.
Ah got you Giacc. Agreed mate, it might be necessary but the pr side doesn't look good does it. Mind it might have looked worse if the team was still over there.
If all players were on a maximum of £10,000 a week all the other money could pay the low paid people say £100,000 compensation each who have lost their jobs, not of their own doing mind. The worry is how bad would relegation be ? pre sky t v not too bad but now £120 m I think. We should have got a top manager in went into debt then but had an exellent team like Man c/Chelsea why did we not do what they did ? Man u have a kit sponsor deal of about £900 m over 10 seasons, where is ours, and no sell on value of most players here.
It's not good for the individuals who have been let go but we do need to minimise outgoings considering the incomings aren't keeping us afloat. Sadly these little bits of cost cutting are a necessary evil.
Not comfortable with this (who would be ?) but it's being done for efficiency and for the future financial stability of our football club. But I'm sure it's being done with some some sensitivity - not a pleasant job for anyone to do . JUST hope we are still premier team next season
It could just very well be that an assistant type posts are being looked at on the footballing side rather than the mundane stadium running side. The appointment of a new development overlord may give us some guide at what is being looked at the basic level maybe it could be a streamlining rather than wholesale job losses. As an instance what was/is Bally's role at the club, or Monty's? For all they are held dear to us they could be an unnecessary expense when looked at it from the accountants view.
We are not looking after the little people at our place nor the people and ex=players who effectively cost nowt but give gilt to the trappings. The first team squad should - out of conscience - offer a few days pay to a redundancy fund. Its because they are **** (and on high wages) that people are losing their jobs. By the way, ****ing hello. x
Thank you Nos. Depends on the crap on here how long I stay. Have said many times how much I love this temple to SAFC. To many defilers in the past. Too many ready to put people down for comments, opinions, preferences, ideas. Lets see. x
The obscene high wages are common in football but it's a catalogue of failed & poor managerial and player appointments over a number of seasons that's led to this horrible situation. But we need to move on and stay in the premier league or leave things as they are and drop down to the feeder leagues. I'm not happy with job losses but am not going to focus on this negative as long as my team moves forwards . So I am waiting to see what happens in the next few games (I am not saying the next 3 letters - )
If there are redundancies, it would be nice if the players donated some of their over inflated wages to add to the redundancy packages? Just know it aint gonna happen though. Think the last time we had redundancies announced, a certain Michael Gray turned up to training in a brand new motor, now that's what i call timing.
