I'd like to see a CB pairing of Kone and Jagielka, Kone's much better when he's got someone to tell him what to do. Surely Everton wouldn't ask for a lot for him given his age.
Disagree, best time to sell Kone is now. When the club are getting the highest fee for a player in his career you know you've sold him at the right time. Jag knows the league and will get better performances out of Papy plus we'll have money to inves tin another player and try to turn another a profit while Kone will never sell for 18m again. We've been **** at making money in the Transfer market but by god it's the only way we'll raise the money to compete and chip away at that debt. Selling players at the right time is something we have to learn, holding on to a player beyond their peak and missing that big transfer fee isn't the way to go about it imo. He's hitting his peak there's interest and potential fee that could give us the breathing space to save our season. If there's one player to sell this window it's Kone imo. He's not been a patch on last season anyway. His value will already be on the decrease.
Partially agree but feel his premiership quality experience will rub off on Djilobodji who is still pretty inexperienced at this level. Good acquisition for me and more importantly our team
I agree about our poor performance in the transfer market. Like I said, selling/swapping Kone makes good economic sense but in our current position, I don't think we can let anyone who would make the current starting XI, presuming everyone was fit, leave. O'Shea knows the league and hasn't produced radically better displays from Djilobodji so there's no guarantee that Jagielka would. Like I've said elsewhere, we'd be stronger with Kone and Jags but not markedly stronger with only Jagielka. If we were a few places and a few points higher up the league then I'd agree that cashing in on Kone would be a good idea but we're so weak right now that I think we can't afford to take that risk.
@Tel will have your guts for garters. He will. Loves the yoda speak he does... Unfriended on here I will be... (Sorry Tel - couldn't resist!!)
I think Jag is head and shoulders above all 3 of them based on what I've seen this season. Papy has been our best CB, but he's been inconsistent going from brilliant to dreadfull. I think Jag would iron any of them out. He's the leader at the back andat the moment leader on the pitch we desperately need. We don't sell, we don't sign, we don't sign, we go down. We need players. That's way I see it. Letting kone leave could bring up to three players in. There's no way Kone has looked anywhere near a 18m pound player but we'll bloody get it in this climate, plus he's a dickhead with a rotten attitude, who knows how that is reflecting in the dressing room. Would be a no brainier for me, providing the cash part of the deal is substantial enough.
I think Jags will probably join you this window, but it won't be in exchange for Kone I'm told, as we've cooled our interest. If we manage to bring in another CB this will happen imo. Jags has been a great servant to Everton, a top pro and a genuinely nice bloke to boot. However, he's aged in the last year and his last few appearances for us have been error strewn. He's given away a hatful of penalties with late challenges this season, tackles that in previous seasons he's made clean, but he's just lost that bit of reaction time imo. Having seen your defence though, he'll definitely be an upgrade lol. Moyes absolutely loves him.
Sounds like he's our type of player Tobes. It also sounds like he might be as effective as Alan Stubbs was for us when he came from Everton. By the way Tobes, top club for your Bradley mascot and his day with you.
In the short term I think it would strengthen us actually. Kone hasn't been half the player he was last season for one reason or another. I think Papy could learn a lot from Jagielka as well.
Quite a few people saying that Kone's nowhere near as good this season compared to the last, seems to me it's because his partnership with Kaboul no longer exists and the whole team is struggling rather than he's suddenly crap now. I haven't seen many signs if any that he's a bad influence.
I don't see him as a bad influence either, not on the pitch. Just the fact that he hasn't put the same effort in might be the reason. I'm thinking of the Sanchez header where he just ball watched. Kaboul hasn't exactly set the world alight at Watford either.
