it was a shoulder challenge. neither player was in possesion of the ball and they both barged into each other so it was as much a freekick to us as it was a penalty to them.
Nah viva, it was a nailed on penalty. Rafa only had one intention and that was to take their man out. It doesn't matter though because it wasn't given.
It was a penalty but I honestly don't think Rafael meant to take him out. Naive and clumsy, no more than that …
it was a penalty. no 2 ways about it. the ref shat his ****in ****ey wee pants cos he feared the wrath of old red nose
If it was a penalty I'm glad it wasn''t given. Not just for the obvious reasons though. I really like it when decisions go our way and we go on to win the match because it really annoys ABUs like this dick head above.
Why would he fear 'old red nose' though? What would Fergie do? Shout at him after the game a bit? Think about what you're saying you daft sweaty sock
It wasn't a penalty. Full credit to the ref for being close enough to see it too. It was in the box, but it wasn't a goal scoring opportunity, varney runs the ball out and collides with Rafael who has every right to come across and make the challenge. Football is a contact sport.
definate penalty. 100% nailed on. Wasn't given, o well. UNlucky you Gooner ****s - particulaly any of you who are Eboue fans
I've seen them given but by letter of the law it wasn't a penalty. The contact was shoulder to shoulder, the ball was going out and he wasn't in a goal scoring position. It probably could have been a free kick inside the box but I have seen penalties given for similar. We get some decisions for us like this one and some against us like the Birmingham goal.
It was a clear penalty, all the United fans in the stadium knew it was a penalty, unfortunately the Ref didnt!!!
Take off the blinkers. It was a clear penalty. Except that it wasnt. I would have given a penalty until I saw the replay. Varney miscontrols and throws himself at the oncoming Rafael. Rafael sticks a foot out to stop a cross. He doesnt touch Varney, except for the shoulder to shoulder contact which is clearly 50/50. Its not even a goal scoring opportunity, it just happens to be in the box. Take off you blinkers or simply learn the rules.
