I would think 95% of managers in the championship would love to manage our squad. I really think we should tout for the best possible candidate, not hand it too a inexperience rookie. Which is finding it very hard to manage players of a high calibre. I thought from day one how do you manage top championship players, when you don't have their respect, and experience, as you are a rookie given the keys to the sweet shop. By the owner of the shop.
Does he have say or final say on signings? Or is he told you have this player signing, hence his stance regards Engval.
As I understand it we have a pre agreed plan as to the type of player we are looking for. Des Taylor scouts the player and Ashton negotiates with the club, player and agents to secure services. LJ has the final say according to him. Engvall we are told has not settled, not surprising if he is not given any playing time. What I think you will now see is Ashton distancing himself from LJ and may already be looking for a new head coach.
If the powers that be are not concerned by now, then they have no excuses with a return to league one. I hope they have been speaking too people over the weekend that I really do think a deal could be done. Pearson was questioned over the job on a tv show, and said it was a very appealing job in a lovely city. Pardew would also be good fit, plays football the right way,Done well in the championship No harm in asking you never now.
Lee Johnson is first team coach. Ashton deals with the management side of the business including board liaison working with Des Taylor player recruitment / procurement / retention. This was done to allow the first team coach to concentrate on coaching the team. He is more of a manager than LJ.
In the classical and wider sense of 'manager' then yes, but in terms of 'football manager', absolutely nonsense. No one would answer 'Who is the manager of Bristol City' with Mark Ashton. LJ picks the team, chooses the tactics, delegates duties in terms of coaching, tells the recruitment part of the club what players he wants/needs, and I'd be amazed if any players are signed without his approval. That is no different to most clubs these days. He is the manager of Bristol City, if not with that specific title.
To be frank, if we turn it around I'll be delighted and surprised at the same time. There will be some though, who would curse in their beer if we got a win on Saturday.
Not me would love a win,but sadly I have us down for a 3-1 loss and I'm 2nd in the table at present with my scores.
I'm still propping it up and have gone for defeat by the odd goal. Hopefully I am wrong again and we win
