I live in the middle of nowhere, and we get about 18MB with BT, which is fine for downloads / streaming, the most we'd ever have using it at any one time is 4 or 5 though.

I like the BT offer currently as it would get me BT sport for the footie

Just don't want to get tied down to a slower speed and struggle

I use Vodafone and it's okaay I guess.

I pay 61:99 a month and get a decent mobile phone and fibre-optic internet. Both unlimited everything. That includes line rental and free home phone too.

I haven't got a clue really if that's a good price, but seems ok for the package when I brake it down.

I had bad experience with voda a few years back, basically their unlimited internet wasn't very unlimited in that towards the end of the month it became painstakingly slow where everything just buffered.

I'm on about my 6th month and it's been fine.

tbh there's not a lot of difference, it's just price that varies and where you live that affects your speed. They all come from the same place afterall!

My parents are with talk talk and are happy but then there is only 2 of them and don't use a computer etc

I have heard horror stories from others so kept away.

Worked for BT a while back and used to get talk talk customers crying on the phone. And then crying after switching to BT

Am sure things have changed but it puts you off

It's the whole slowing down and crashing if too many users that becomes an issue

Tbf to VM they may be pricy and the kids in loft struggle with WiFi but its not crashed or slowed with use, obviously has if there's been a fault but I haven't had cause to reset the box very often

    £32 something a month

Just internet. Was less but slowly increased by VM, hence the annoyance and thread

Tell Virgin that you've seen the Sky deal and you're going to switch to them, unless they make you a better offer.
    They'll give you improved terms.

I use Sky Fibre and I'd rate it a 5/10.

I have XBox1 hooked up via ethernet and it's faultless.

The Q mini box is supposed to act as a relay but it's just a useless pile of crap, all the Sky Q equipment is utterly useless crap, they've dropped a bollock with Sky Q and it'll cost their customers a fortune to repair the damage.

Everything is gobbledygook to you Mirpuri...

When you sign up they will tell you the likely speed you will get but you never really that speed, also what lot of people fail to recognise 50Mbps don't mean you will get that speed download, they restrict the download/upload speed depending on the supplier to 4-5 Mbps upload and download more if you pay for 18 Mbps for instance you might get close to it depending on if its a direct fibre or multiple customers on the same pipe, using it at the same time.

I get around 70-80 Mbps download and approx 5 Mbps upload.

VM is generally better as they use the Fibre for their network and BT use a mixture..

Also you can use direct connection from the router without having to run cables around the house...

Be careful between the the advertised Mb and your download speeds of MB.

Mb is megabit which is about 4x slower than MB which is what you see when you download.

BT was **** for me (they didn't have infinity in my block) and if there were multiple users, streaming was sometimes laggy/there would be spikes in gaming if other users were using it. Now i got hyperoptic (london) but i pay a lot more as i prefer a faster internet.

I wasn't sure what the exact issue is but i think its to do with the Upload speed rather than than Download as i believe you still need to upload small packets and thats the blocker when you have too many users. Maybe someone more technical can correct me

Probably your upload speeds playing up...

1024 bit = 1 kb, 1024 kb = 1 Mb, 1024 Mb = 1MB...You would never get MB for home use unless you are paying some serious money and doing some serious upload/download...

You are wrong with the Mb -> MB.

    it's about 8Mb to 1 MB. https://www.lifewire.com/what-is-a-megabit-2483412

As for when you download files online, everything is quoted in MB (megabyte) from file size to download speed.

That is different to Mb (megabit) which is quoted when you are looking at ISPs advertising their speed.

As for the upload speed, typically the normal user won't upload much so they seriously limit the upload speed. I think the BT i had was seriously underwhelming which was why it was seriously hampering the usage when multiple users were on
