Despite us being five first teamers short on the night, we gave a better account against victimpool than a lot of so called pl teams did
Before I pass on my opinion about how we'd fare in the PL with this squad, let me remind you of a short conversation that took place in 1966... Jack Charlton: "Boss, why did you pick me for the england team? I'm not nearly the best centre half in the country". Sir Alf: "Jack, I pick the best team, not the best players". There are many examples of teams with 'the best players' winning zilch. There are also many examples of teams without the best players stunning everyone. e.g. england in '66, Leicester in 2015/16. What we have at the moment is a good team. Not the best, but a good team, and a marvellous base on which to build a better team. The team ethic is probably the most critical factor in our survival in the PL (if we make it). Careful purchases that won't upset the balance & harmony (e.g. not buying a 'star' & paying them 5x the average team salary) will be essential. Marry this team ethic to the average age of the team, and a hungry young manager who believes in himself & the team, and who knows what we will achieve. I'm usually an optimist, and I'm no different on this subject. For the first time in many years, I believe. And so, apparently do the team & manager. Can't wait.
Will you be match fit for a pint Neil at the sheff wed game. I'm over. Don't want to be stuck with glory on me own all day
Would love to, but ... starting my round the world trip on Feb 19th. Back in time for the PNE match on April 8th.
