I did this for the last 2 seasons, so I am doing it again. Yes its a pointless thread but im not breaking the tradition now Table now: Pos. Team........... Pl....... Pts 01. Sheff Utd....... 36....... 72 02. Fleetwood..... 36....... 64 ----------------------------------- 03. Bolton........... 35....... 63 04. Bradford........ 37....... 62 05. Scunthorpe.... 37....... 61 06. Millwall......... 35....... 58 ----------------------------------- 07. Southend....... 36....... 54 08. Rovers........... 37....... 54 09. Walsall........... 37....... 53 10. Oxford........... 35....... 52 11. Rochdale........ 34....... 50 Table if all teams win their games in hand: Pos. Team........... Pl....... Pts 01. Sheff Utd....... 37....... 75 02. Bolton........... 37....... 69 ----------------------------------- 03. Fleetwood..... 37....... 67 04. Millwall......... 37....... 64 05. Bradford........ 37....... 62 06. Scunthorpe.... 37....... 61 ----------------------------------- 07. Rochdale....... 37....... 59 08. Oxford........... 37....... 58 09. Southend....... 37....... 57 10. Rovers........... 37....... 54 11. Walsall............ 37....... 53 I heard DC say yesterday before the game that out of the remaining 10 games, he thinks 7 wins should be enough to get into the top 6. We have won 1 already s0 on DC's theory, we need 6 more wins from our remaining 9 games. Thats 18 more points needed. Now if (and thats a big IF) all teams around us win all their games in hand, we will be 7 points behind the top 6. So personally,I have to disagree with DC. 18 points wont be enough. I think we need to win 8 out of the last 9 games to be in the play offs at the end of the season. Looking at the remaining 9 fixtures.... Bury A................... Currently 19th Chesterfield H........ Currently 23rd Coventry A............ Currently 24th Shrewsbury H........ Currently 18th Wimbledon A......... Currently 13th Gillingham A.......... Currently 16th Oldham H............... Currently 20th Peterborough A...... Currently 12th Millwall H............... Currently 6th .... 5 sides in the bottom 7 OR 6 sides are in the bottom 9 OR 7 sides in the bottom half of the table... which ever stat you prefer! I know facing teams fighting for survival will not be easy games but we certainly have the best looking remaining games out of the teams around us and if we are to get into the top 6 then we should be looking at getting 7 wins from our next 7 games - all against bottom half sides. The last 2 games could be the tricky games on paper. If we mess up against the struggling teams, we will have to beat Millwall on the last day I reckon. What do you guys think will happen? .
I was hoping for a boring finish this season as the last to have been beyond nerve racking however I think we got an excellent chance of making the play offs especially the way we are playing at the moment and luck will have I actually have the Saturday off that the league one play off falls on.
They definitely won't win all their games in hand. On current form, I'm pretty sure we'll make the playoffs. Scunny are on the slide, Fleetwood are stalling and let's see how Millwall react to their embarrassing cup exit. We're in great shape.
Form table over last 6 games has us in 6th. Bury, our opponents tomorrow are above us in 5th. This could be a tricky game! Millwall, Fleetwood, Sheff Utd and Bradford are 1st to 4th and they are in the top 6 in the live table. Scunny are 23rd in the form table and havent won in the last 6 games! http://www.statto.com/football/stats/england/league-one/2016-2017/form-table
The IF game. It isn't something to hold your breath over, but there is a chance. Shame we dropped four points against Scunny and Bolton, both games we deserved to win ( on their performance rating, not entirely ours. We can't afford to give silly goals away or not take the plethora of chances at Bolton). But we are on form and stranger things have happened. Traditionally 1.5 points per game is play off country, but that doesn't always work! Six points this week and we put pressure on others. Go up Gas!!
Just a quicky re the form table. How many with better form have played as many matches against the top clubs and not lost during that period.
Yep, the IF game. I only did this thread because doing the same thing as last 2 years worked, so was hoping it work again. Going by last night, it obviously didnt work
I think Millwall will win their games in hand meaning we will be 9 points from the play offs but 10 points really if you take goal difference into it. 6 games = 18 points. I cant see that being enough to reach the play offfs because we will be relying on teams getting 8 points or less over their last 8 games. I think we need to win 7, if not all 8 games. Win all 8 games gives us 24 points. That means teams above us need to get less than 14 points. That is more possible. But will we win all the last 7/8 games of the season. I dont think so. But we still have on paper the easiest run in. The last 2 games will be cruical. Thats Peterborough away and Millwall home. Very difficult.
Well gents If you are right and I am therefore wrong we will still have had a good season and if we just miss out an exciting end to it as well and we can take a lot of positivity into next season, But we do need a permanent keeper with Lumley being my first choice with quality back up in case of injury / loss of form
