In all honesty, when I've seen him play live, he hasn't really convinced me that he's Premier League standard. He actually disappointed me every time I've seen him play against us. Though, I don't see him week in-week out like Brum fans and they seem to love him. We have a similar attitude to James Chester. We see what he's capable of, and know where he should be but others may think differently showing that sometimes, as a fan, you can't accurately decide whether a player is or is not good enough although if you had him on loan previously, you will have seen quite a bit of him. How long ago was it?
2010/2011 Sven signed him. He had a torrid time against us with Birmingham. He even scored an own goal to put us 1-0 up
I think Davies and Chester might do well together..Bruce is no mug..he knows how to defend... could be a shrewd move if he can get the lad playing..
I have no doubt if he had been our manager last season, we would be looking forward to man u. etc...instead of scratching about trying to cut costs...
That's obviously why you were pre-season favourites for promotion You had / have and inexperienced manager (in terms of taking a team into the Premier League I mean) we had one who had been there and done it - I know which I would rather have
I wouldn't listen to the bookies regarding who is favourite for promotion. Pretty sure Wolves were one of the favourites too... I would say that we were in a worse position than you this time last year, with the players we had on our books and all that. And you only just scraped promotion by the skin of your teeth, so there is no guarantee that he'd have taken us up.
facts say different, he did it in one season..with far less resources.. and he unearthed the goal machine prossie..
We can't have it both ways lads For me it's simple - Nigel had a better squad on paper - based on the cost and the wages being paid - the fact that he couldn't (or wouldn't) manage some of those players sits squarely with him as does the fact that he only wanted to recruit and play inexperienced players No good blaming Sven or anyone else - contrast with Bruce - came in and managed a team to automatic promotion having inherited (in theory) an inferior squad to Pearson... Can't argue with the facts - the table doesn't lie and Hull are opening at Chelsea next season because he succeeded ... we didn't... end of.
Pearson bought in the right players for Hull and Brucy was able to roll with it. Pearson has bought in the right players for us sofar, we just have a few more "Jimmy Bullards" still to shift than Hull did. Once these are out, Pearson should have no excuses. I personally think that Pearson is very good at building the base and freeing up funds, if he was to go, our squad would be very appealing to other managers who like to add a couple of game changing players.
You make some good points but do underplay Steve Bruce's impact and possibly over play pearson's at Hull ... i.e Hull fans would undoubtedly say (indeed have) that if Nigel Pearson had stayed as their manager they'd still be playing Championship football ... Steve Bruce didn't just 'roll with it' ... he evaluated it, before improving it and then managed it to success ... as history shows.
SB inherited a squad that was losing its way under Nick Barmby (fantastic player for us - but clearly lacking in man management skills) who fell out with too many players and subsequently relied on the same 17 or 18 players all the time, while others did not get a look in. (Jay Simpson and Paul Mcshane to name but 2). The appointment of the right manager last summer was a crucial decision and one the Allam's clearly got right
He made just twelve appearances fo you, I hardly think that makes you experts on his ability. Brucey knows best...
