Hope we don't get the usual flat performance after a champions league game. I know it was only Paris but i dont think its the travelling that causes it
To be honest, we can't blame a CL hangover if we perform poorly this weekend because we're at the very start of the season and we've got better squad depth than we've had in previous seasons gone by. We've been starting seasons erratically for the last 6-7 years now, so I won't be expecting a stellar performance this weekend. I think it will be a cagey and tight affair, though. Hull have had a good start to the season and whilst they may not provide much threat going forward, they are very difficult to break down. If we want to win, I think we will need to use our width to stretch them. If we try and get through them by passing it around intricately around their box, we will get frustrated easily because they have a tendency to sit deep and congest their penalty area. From what I've seen, Elmohamady isn't a good fullback, so we need to be targeting his side of the pitch as much as we can. Will really need big games from Walcott/Ox/Sanchez. And if we're going persist with playing one up front, then as much as I don't like him, Giroud will need to start this one because we need an outlet to hold the ball up and win fouls higher up the pitch. Sanchez or Perez won't get much joy if they play a lone role against Hull's centre-halves.
Cannot stand Jakupovic after his dicky and arrogant celebratory antics against us in the cup when he celebrated every good save he made to get the 0-0. Was particularly pleasing stuffing 4 goals past his stupid mug in the replay. If he starts that s**t tomorrow I hope Koscielny nails him at a corner.
I envisage a tough, bitty game. Would be good to see Xhaka and Santi sitting deep and spraying passes across the field with Sanchez in his natural position and Giroud up front. Not sure who I'd have on the other wing, but suppose it's a choice between theo/oxo/perez though ramsey is a wildcard. Could be a good game to give Kos a rest and play Holding but that means messing with the developing partnership at CB
Ohh well, so much for that - according to Wenger Ramsey is still injured and Theo is 50/50. He see's Xhaka as a more box-to-box player, which isn't exactly what we need to play next to Santi. Which is one of the reasons he hasn't played so much - but apparently he'll play a lot of games for us eventually.
http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/20160916/team-news-walcott-ramsey-and-giroud This is a summary of what Wenger had to say - Arsène Wenger has revealed the latest team news ahead of our Premier League clash against Hull City at the KCOM Stadium on Saturday afternoon. It centred on the availability of Theo Walcott, Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud. on the team news… Walcott could be back in the squad, I have to check how well he came out of the session today. I haven’t spoken with the medical people yet. Ramsey is of course still out. Gabriel is back in normal training, I don’t think he will be included but he might play on Tuesday night. The injury situation is not bad at the moment. on Ramsey… I hoped [he would be back] but he is not ready. on whether he could make the Forest game... It will come too early I think. We are cautious with him because I do not want any setback with his hamstring. At the moment, Tuesday is too early for him. on if he start will Cech… Cech will be back, yes. on if he will make many changes… No. on if Olivier Giroud will start… Olivier Giroud got a little knock on Tuesday night. I have to check if he is fit and available. on what the problem was… His big toe.
I have a sneaky feeling we might nick it, but you have beaten us comfortably in every game you've played at the KC, so that could well happen again.
Over on the Hull board a lot of there fans seem to dislike our fans, I don't know where it has come from but we seem to have a bad reputation with them!
Arsenal XI vs. Hull: Cech; Bellerin, Mustafi, Koscielny, Monreal; Coquelin, Cazorla; Walcott, Ozil, Iwobi; Sanchez. Xhaka on the bench.
How many games is it going to take for AW to realise that Sanchez as a lone centre-forward simply doesn't work? Our attack is going to blunt again. Utterly bizarre. Iwobi and Walcott need to show up today, as they're going to be key if we want to win this.
Oh Mustafi You have to do better there, really poor judgement of the flight of the ball. Luckily, Koscielny did enough to put Hernandez off.
