I was tempted to block Girt Bucket from this thread and tidy up, but his ramblings seem to produce decent replies from others, so I reckon I'll leave him to flounder...for now. EDIT. Just seen Chazz's post from earlier.
I've been for a walk around the town centre,Old Town and Marina this afternoon. It's a totally different place to a couple of years ago. The COC has really lifted our City and after going to York yesterday a can safely say our town centre streets are in a lot better state. Obvs York has the better buildings but we're in a lot better position than we've been for half a decade. Hopefully we can keep people coming in over the next few years.
I'm loving the positivity the CoC has given us. How long before it becomes trendy to be from or visit Hull??
I agree Hull is on the up but York is still a much better shopping experience. A good number of decent independents, most of the chains, and very few empty units. Shopping might not be everyone's cup of tea but it brings people in.
Yes it is but it's also more expensive. It's a bit of a nightmare on a Saturday afternoon/ tea time. I couldn't believe the amount of drunken people stumbling all over yesterday. Quite a few thousand.
It's certainly popular. But it's still not "cool" to be from hull in the same way say Manchester or Liverpool was in the 1990's +
My mrs was doing a stall at the folk festival this weekend for the council. She was saying they had volunteers yesterday and today with them. The two yesterday were from Leeds and the two today were from Liverpool. They just wanted to be a part of the City of Culture. Amazing isn't it.
Just a doodle of mine. The City of Culture for a year, no more Just enough for us to open the door Open the door so others can see Its not what they expect or expected it to be They've read the papers and heard the jibes Hull is dead it has no vibes Its the end of the line and then its just bare Its the end of the world you can see if from there But now there's a chance a little one at that Maybe to prove the jokes are old hat. Maybe not Larkin but never mind.
I went on a tour up the tower at Hull Minster tonight. It was brilliant Then round the food festival Great City
