Had a great evening at the John Grant curated, 'Sounds from Smoky Bay', highlights being Grant and his band with his powerful voice and range, Soley, a warm wash of piano and female vocals and Wrangler (Cabaret Voltaire like synth trio). Sod to find the Gate 5 venue though.
Just been round Ferens again Amazing Whatever you do don't miss the Ron Meuck collection. Incredible and almost too lifelike. Expected them to suddenly move! Oh and don't look at the pile of rocks without reading about the pile of rocks...totally changed my perception Now relaxing in Head of Steam !
really enjoyed the whole weekend, mt wolf, susanne sundfor and gusgus on friday were outstanding, as were adele stripe's humber star project, nordic affect and lindstrom amongst others on saturday. and when you thought it couldn't get any better, it did with the hull choir yesterday afternoon and the mental ghostdigital before the exceptional soley and grant. didn't know anything about any of them prior to the event but took a chance and wow, i've a whole new load of music to investigate !
Got to agree with this - another terrific afternoon at the Ferens. The "pile of stones" was a real surprise and, when seen in context, is brilliant. Rembrandt also superb, We'd never seen the two maritime paintings by Eurich before (although they are part of the permanent collection) and they're fabulous. The place was buzzing.
