My two picks at the weights and are guaranteed to run (would love to see Don Poli win mindyouas this race seems made for him) UCELLO CONTI does all his work late on and and his run lto in the Thyestes was pretty good, his run in the Becher proves he handles the fences and looks to be trained for this BLAKLION- jumps well, stays soundly and was impressed with his run behind definitely red - looks to have been given a break and hopefully keep him fresh for this!
Elliot wants to get a few more horses entered. Lazy ****er Definitely Red catches the old eye at this early stage.
Rather like his trainer COCKTAILS AT DAWN has got a lovely weight. They were ‘up to’ all sorts last time as they got this horse qualified but must be delighted with the end result. Currently number 58 in the rankings you would imagine he’d get a run no problem. 80/1 is a massive price. Something that I may have said once or twice before re this one and the 2017 GN! Of the rest Blaklion looks nicely perched (we saw at the weekend old boy Nige oblige with one who had been underestimated by the handicapper. Not beyond the realms of possibiblty that may happen again here). Meanwhile, Wounded Warrior also has the ability to outrun his mark and 66/1 is a massive price for a horse who amongst his form has solid, and I do mean solid, efforts at Graded level. Meanwhile, I’m sure I speak for everyone when I say our hearts will be with the forum’s favourite Corinthian, the younger Mr Waley-Cohen when the tapes go up. The Young Master is another who you could say has been reasonable treated by the old boy assessor. Nobody rides the course better than the younger Mr Waley-Cohen and I’m sure there wouldn’t be a dry eye on the forum if he obliged, at Aintree, on the second Saturday in April. God bless you, Sir.
Foxrock should be sticking out like a sore thumb to everyone given who his trainer is and the races he's been running in recently.
Ucello Conti looks to have got a nice weight off 149 only 6lbs higher for finishing second in the Thyestes. That form should work out nicely and Gordon should be able to get a nice bit more out of him for the day. He has always looked like a National horse. Currently 33/1 and would likely be half that price on the day.
Raz de Maree wasn't beaten that far by the GC second fav and should appreciate the trip. Is getting on a fair bit mind you...
Ha haa Elliott withdrew the top weight just as it was announced shouting a 'That's from Mega Fortune, so **** you Phil Smith'
I like the look of Ucello Conti but he doesn't really win many races. A couple that interest me is Empire of Dirt. Is he likely to run? It has been stated he could be gold cup or Ryanair bound. Looks on the upgrade to me. Any ideas anyone? Also like the look of O'Faolains Boy for the gorgeous Rebecca Curtis...is due to run on Saturday? I assume he is being trained for the race? I backed him last year but he was withdrawn on the morning of the race apparently lame. He definitely has a lot of class and would stay...the question is does he retain plenty of ability. Anyone have any views on him?
Empire OF Dirt is certainly a horse that would give the impression of getting the trip in the National. He lobs along nicely and would see it out well I think. Would have a serious chance if lining up Captain.
Cheers Humans...I m not sure if he will run as has quite a bit of weight but I can see him being Cheltenham Gold Cup bound. Elliott is apparently keen on running him. That's quite interesting.... I do like the look of O'Faolains Boy though if Curtis can get him anywhere near back to his best.
I see that old boy Pricewise has gone 1 pt each-way, at 33/1, on both More Of That and Foxrock in today’s ‘Racing Post’. In the same publication Mr Henderson, speaking at the launch event, was very positive about Cocktails At Dawn. There was a free bar at said gathering though so I don’t know if that had some effect on his prose! Upbeat bulletin though.
Ask the handicapper at 12.15 today is a must watch on ATR today....imagine if they got O'Leary to call in!
Money saved already Don as I wasn't backing him, definitely not ante post. Merely engaging in conversation
