Tips / Bets Grand National 2017

I know absolutely nowt about racing which is probably why I am still in profit overall on the national. It's the only bet I place all year. I usually pick 4 horses and put a fiver on each way. One of the favourites, one about 25-1, one about 33-1 and one very long odds. I'd be well down overall using those tactics, but I'm still dining out on Mon Mome lol

Haven't chosen any for this year yet. I'm going to need to open an online account somewhere as I'm out all day tomorrow. Any suggestions on best one to go with?

I do all my betting on the Betfair exchange. You seem to get preferable odds since there is no bookie taking a cut. However, since it's the Grand National and you are opening a new account somewhere there will probably be some very good offers out there with 'free' bets, paying out on extra places, etc.

 

Well I've joined up with Bet365 and they match your first deposit with a bonus.

Gone for my usual randomness and picked based on odds and names at £5 each way on all.....

Inspired by Trev I have gone for:

Thunder And Roses at 33/1
Ucello Conti at 16/1

Because it reminded me of the Earl I have gone for:

Cocktails At Dawn at 80/1

And for no obvious reason at all I have gone for:

Rogue Angel at 25/1

Just need to spend my £40 bonus bet now and waste that too!!

 

My tip is to put a fiver on each horse to win. You can always tell your mates (or in Nevs case his mum) you picked the winner and in the unlikely event a 50-1 outsider romps home you will be quids in.

 

So will be going halfers if you win then.

 

I wouldn't dare tell my mam. She thinks gambling is the work of the devil!!

Will make my mind up on actual bets in the morning because my head's done in looking at the form now.

 

That is very unlikely. Apart from the Mon Mome year, I have only ever won about 4 or 5 times (and been doing this since I was about 21). One year 3 of my 4 horses were shot!!

 

Probably doing better than me most years mate.

 

Actually that's not true. I normally make about £1 after hedging my bets. Only winner I ever had was Ballabriggs in 2011 although I've only been placing bets for about 8 years.

Just as in real life, I blame Party Politics for my woes. I bet on him the first year I did this and won about £100. That was a hell of a lot of money for me back then (its still quite a lot now ). I soon learned life isn't always so easy though

 

I am going to put a 100 quid on yours and Hank's top pick as you seem to be the only ones who are taking this seriously.
However would you both be kind enough to place the bets for me. Gambling is illegal here and all the internet sites are blocked.
If I lose I will pay you back when I next see you. If I win just take it out of my winnings and transfer the rest through.
