The Wobby are asking us all to nominate Watford fans will have their own thoughts about what was the best team the late Graham Taylor built as Hornets manager but who would make a select XI from all his years at the Vicarage Road helm? How many of the side that won back-to-back promotions to reach the Premier League in the 1999 Play-Off Final would make it into the Hornets team that finished runners-up in the old First Division in 1982? That is one question to weigh up in your considerations and in doing so help us to compile Graham Taylor’s Watford Select XI. The make-up of the team will be decided by a reader vote but today we are starting the process of seeking nominations to make up a player longlist. Nominations are open to any Watford player who made a competitive (league or cup) first-team appearance during Taylor’s three spells as manager at Vicarage Road – from August 1977 to May 1987, August 1997 to May 2001 and the 18 Hornets matches he was in charge of from February 24, 1996 to May 5, 1996. To make your nominations, email your Graham Taylor Watford Select XI – consisting of a goalkeeper, four defenders, four midfielder and two strikers – to [email protected] by noon on Friday, March 3 I thought it would be good for us to have a go here> Fancy posting your team? A goalkeeper, four defenders, four midfielder and two striker
Blimey - this should start a good argument... Goalkeeper: Tony Coton Defenders: Pat Rice, John McLelland, Seb Prodl, Wilf Rostron Midfield: John Barnes, Keith Eddy, Kenny Jackett, Nigel Callaghan Striker: Heidar Helguson, Luther Blissett
I don't think GT was at the helm when Seb Prodl and Keith Eddy were playing Tony Coton David Bardsley, John McLelland, Filippo Galli, Wilf Rostron Nigel Callaghan, Allan Nielson, Kenny Jackett, John Barnes Luther Blissett, Ross Jenkins I bet I have forgotten someone
Yeah - got a bit carried away there... I was agonising over Sims or Bolton, not wanting to leave either out and forgot the criteria. So will include them both - Sims for Prodl & Bolton for Eddy... Good call about Bardsley - had forgotten about him. But will stick with Rice due to his influence as captain.
Tony Coton Pat Rice, John McLelland, Steve Sims, Nigel Gibbs Nigel Callaghan, Ian Bolton, Kenny Jackett, John Barnes Luther Blissett, Ross Jenkins Well that was hard.... and I am sure one or two of them would have to change their game a bit. I could have done a second Xl too there were so many good players
Tony Coton David Bardsley, John McLelland, Steve Sims, Nigel Gibbs Nigel Callaghan, Tom Walley, Kenny Jackett, John Barnes Luther Blissett, Ross Jenkins And yes im sure Tom never played on the pitch for Graham
Tony Coton David Bardsley, Pat Rice, Wilf Rostron, Nigel Gibbs John Barnes, Kenny Jackett, Allen Nielsen, Nigel Callaghan Luther Blissett, Ross Jenkins subs. Alec Chamberlain Paul Robinson Ian Bolton Les Taylor Tommie Smith Tommy Mooney Heidar Helguson
Pat was there to help the young ones David had skill and pace .Tom could have played for GT in per season . Tom was anther of our many MR WATFORDs
Can´t really compile a team as only saw Taylor in the second spell, I don´t remember the games I was taken to when he was in his first spell. Nielsen was a great CM. Surprised Jason Lee hasn´t made it into any teams... He did score the promotion winning goal though....(need Piña emoji)
My team: Coton Bardsley, Sims, McClelland, Rostron Callaghan, Taylor, Jackett, Barnes Blissett, Mooney Imagine trying to make a team from those who only made one appearance for him - anyone know of a keeper other than Plumley?
There have been around a dozen over the years, the most recent being Jack Bonham, but am pretty sure Plumley was the only one under GT.
Voting now open for final XI http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/ne..._votes_for_Graham_Taylor_s_Watford_Select_XI/
Is it just me being blind, or is anyone else having trouble finding the "most popular selections form the longlist below from which you should select one goalkeeper, four defenders, four midfielders and two forwards."?
