http://www.kilburntimes.co.uk/sport...ecieve_boost_over_warren_farm_plans_1_4924733 Judge rules in our and Ealing councils favour. Good news again
“The club will also be responsible for on-going maintenance of the new facilities, with no cost to taxpayers or the council.” This really is a non brainer. In fact it is crazy that it has taken this long. I know it is the system, which is working and that is a good thing of course. It's the nimbys that riles me, that they can't see that this I such a good thing for the community is beyond belief imo.
I think they have a political ideology that can't tolerate the idea of a corporation - it was never personal against QPR - being given prime land for 'free'. Given that there will still be plenty of space to walk dogs (and newts?!), I believe it was more about such issues. Hoos seemed confident that work was going to begin in May. Let's hope we don't have to deal with idiots chained to bulldozers.
It was a much used trick in the 70s and I suspect the law has evolved to deal with it better. The alternative is feign ignorance and just start them up anyway!!!
Bump! Are we still going to build our new training facilities on Warren Farm? There has been no news on this subject now for a while. Will it ever be built?
When I was an apprentice, the older guys used to tease us and send us to the stores to get a "long weight" (along with tartan paint and sky-hooks) - 2 hours later as we sat around, finally figured out it was a "long wait" that's exactly how this saga seems to be dragging on....
Drove past it the other day to visit poor old Mum at West Mid. Bizarrely, there is some sort of development on the other side of the road that looks suspiciously like some sort of sports facility. No bulldozers on site at Warren farm.
Perhaps another option could be where the youngsters train. It's used to be the British Airways sports ground and The Concorde club in Cranford. Think it's a 30 acre site (think Warren Farm is 60) and BA don't use the club now. As a retired BA person I know the site well. It is near the M4 and is still in use, although not open all the time. So don't think dog walkers etc are allowed to use it.
My dad used to work for BA and I spent many summer days there when they used to hold the staff summer fun day. Remember clearly doing a static line jump from a training tower, and getting a kiss from Katy Manning (to this day still my favourite Dr Who companion)
WLW, very remote chance but what was your Dads name and where and when did he work for BA? Still keep in touch with some old work mates andthey hate it now. I got out at right time.
Of course it's a no-brainer. All the costs will be offset by them raising ticket prices, food & drink prices etc and putting it all on the supporters. Yeah and I am sure we're all happy to contribute
WLW, I was there from 71-2005, but not ground maintenance. Used to be a great company, but now run by a poison little *hit called Willie Walsh. When you Dad and I started it was BEA and BOAC.
