i wonder if some smart entrepreneur will make a cheap copy of the Queen's hat available at a reasonable price? They could do a baby bonnet one, and maybe a motorcycle helmet version. The Brexiteers can identify each other by their six fingers and homemade guns: us normal people hoping for a reasonable brexit could don the hat to show our Euro-friendliness. <diva>

Sometimes it's easy to forget what a beautiful song Bridge Over Troubled Water is. A bit of a twat, sometimes, is Paul Simon; but he's better than Dylan and up there with McCartney, in my book.

Not really political, just a tenuous link to the charity record.

Very interesting.........the British people have been fooled for too long, we need fundamental social change and start looking after all
citizens, not just the top 1%. This is true throughout the 'west' aswell.

I find the French situation fascinating.

    1. Macron has about 50/50 total newbs elected now.

    2. Anyone who stayed socialist and didnt join him got hammered

    3. He went 50/50 gender balance too.

    4. The vote seems anti establishment based on his persona.

    It is quite the experiment.

Here people went 2 old parties and thats just it. Is there room for new force to emerge?

    'Want' is an interesting word

There is an appetite for change in the political system from the public

But any change has to come from those within the system who have some agency

If you look across Europe there are lots of new parties around, much moreso than here

The class system, historically and imaginatively for a lot of people is still a big problem. It inhibits the politics in this country

Class has changed, is changing, but the politics here haven't and still rest on old, out of date, irrelevant and retrospective positions

There is room for a new politics, but as always, it won't happen until it's in somebody's best interest

    you are right.

conservatives are a 19th century construct
labour is a VERY mid 20th century construct where unions and "the working man" has too much sway.

There is certainly room IMO for a part about the whole people not the "working man" or the "middle class" where right and responsibilities are central to beliefs not benfits or tax reductions

The thing for me is I am not in a union. i think they have gone beyond where the "struggle was fought" and the majoirty of power unions now protect people who don't need protection while 0 hours and stuff like that goes on unabated. I think politics and unions need to be split where peoples rights and the need to all work and contribute but with much higher protection for those who need it is politics field and unions stick to being a union.

He's right but he's also part of the cause. And he nearly made the Lib Dems extinct.

Not surprised he didn't get his seat back in Sheffield Hallam as he proved himself an utter hypocrite and a weakling sniffing the tories arses in the coalition, which is a shame as he's actually quite likeable, has decent values (well, coalition aside) and fairly intelligent.

Premier Inn "concerned" they have hotels with the cladding the police say fail tests....

600 state run buildings have it.

My arguments about how the EU protected us with health and safety regulations look a bit thin right now.....

This will turn into a bigger ****storm than we thought it was....and that is saying a lot considering the death toll...

I wonder how many buildings had it fitted before it was banned, and how many since. Those that had it fitted since it was banned should be the subject of an investigation.

Thats a good point. Tbh i hadn't looked up when it was banned.

I know another London Council are saying they ordered the fire resistant version and have discovered the fitting (same company) put in the cheaper stuff.

This really is one of those times the corporate manslaughter charges should be used...sounds like in the fire case it was a council choice so on them...resigning with a 100k pay off shouldn't stop it...and not just him...i want to see all paper work...who voted what to pressure budgets...who from the council was on the oversight committees...did a senior maintenance officer sign off on it on top of a junior...

I have seen first hand how the maintenance sections of public bodies are just too close to the construction industry players...i used to scream that i was one of the most heavily audited sections yet theirs got very little despite huge capital and concurrent expenditure and much more risk regarding both public funds and safety....and they wouldnt be audited for years...and each time...bam...something was uncovered....billing for high quality build and second rate put in...with maintenance officer signing off on invoices and sharing the diff with contractor....and yet.....no change in auditing schedule of department...

Apparently Andrea Leasdsom wants broadcasters and the media to be 'more patriotic' over Brexit as it would be Helpful. <yikes>

I forgot we turned into North Korea and that the media was just there to sell the governments bullshit and lies.
