The slump has set in at St. James's! The "Bank of England" side has, in a playing sense, gone bankrupt. The great Geordie side is reeling. The Cup honeymoon is over. Why? four times why? In my blunt opinion, because they have have been managerless ever since George Martin left to take over at Aston Villa. When Martin left, "Mr. Newcastle," in the bluff, jovial shape of Director Stan Seymour, took charge. Stan is a well-liked, kindly sort, knows his football - BUT HE IS ON THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS. Somehow, in this aggressive era of professionalism the words "honorary capacity" don't ring true. and it goes on Article written by a James Rowland in the Soccer Star, 21 Feb 1953.
