The slump has set in at St. James's!
The "Bank of England" side has, in a playing sense, gone bankrupt.
The great Geordie side is reeling.
    The Cup honeymoon is over.
    Why? four times why?

In my blunt opinion, because they have have been managerless ever since George Martin left to take over at Aston Villa.
When Martin left, "Mr. Newcastle," in the bluff, jovial shape of Director Stan Seymour, took charge. Stan is a well-liked, kindly sort, knows his football - BUT HE IS ON THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS. Somehow, in this aggressive era of professionalism the words "honorary capacity" don't ring true.

    and it goes on

Article written by a James Rowland in the Soccer Star, 21 Feb 1953. If anyone would like to read the rest of the article I am quite happy to add the rest.

Come on Musty, i know you're a slow reader but even i thought you'd got up to the 1970's on your newspaper reading.
