People were saying that Corbyn would take the UK back to the 1970s. I think between him and May they have achieved that... taking us back to 1974! Now if only the music would improve....
Bit off topic I know but in my view, and I speak only for the kind of music I love (Rock, Blues, Metal, Country) the music scene has never been better with so many great new bands coming through. I've been going to gigs since .... 1974 ... first one was Wishbone Ash at the Theatre Royal, and I can honestly say that the gig scene now is the best it has ever been. Support live music everyone please.
Oh I agree we have the accumulated wealth, but the energy, the volume and quality of the rock/blues in the early 1970s was immense. If you haven't heard a band called King King check them out
Seeing them in Corby on June 30th - excellent band. Check out Bad Touch - a Dereham band who really are the dogs bollocks. They should be supporting King King in Corby and are on tour in November.
Credit to you for taking the result on the chin KIO. May has said Brexit will proceed on schedule, but it will now have to take into account a new mandate from the election on top of that from the referendum. Even David Davies has said that other options like the single market will now have to be considered. IMO, that means a broader approach to the eventual deal as we leave the EU, but we'll have to wait and see.
Surely that's Theresa May checking to see if there are any voters out there who aren't Tory plants before she comes out. "They want me to answer questions, Lynton! What shall I say? What shall I say? Tell me what to say!"
Sorry to disagree but despite what the media / establishment would like us to think I don't think last night had much to do about Brexit. I think it was much more about Tory arrogance, poor leadership, a very poor Tory campaign, austerity, the state of our public services, the gap between the most well off and least well off in society getting increasingly wider, the way everyone other than those in the upper echelons of society (i.e. big business, the establishment, bankers etc) have seen their living standards deteriorate, the poison dwarf in the Norths push for a second referendum and a general dislike of May and how she conducts herself. Oh and generally speaking us Brits don't like being taken for granted nor do we like someone being demonised just because their views are different, even if the views are nonsensical. Both Labour and the Conservatives made gains in many areas only because of the collapse of the UKIP vote and a lack of appetite in Scotland for another independence referendum. May and her cohorts may well try and dress it up as mainly an anti Brexit issue, after all she never wanted to leave. The Conservative party really need to take a long hard honest look at themselves and need to start listening to what the general public want, rather than deluding themselves into believing that the public actually want what their chums in big business and the establishment say the public want. In October 2002 Theresa May, the then Chairman of the Conservative Party, said in a party conference speech that: "There's a lot we need to do in this party of ours. Our base is too narrow and so, occasionally, are our sympathies. You know what some people call us – the Nasty Party."[ Far from being strong and stable May has turned in to a cheerleader for the nasty party.
Excellent post canario and it certainly was a disastrous campaign by TM.and her Cronies. I loved the comments by the 'poisoned dwarf' from across the border (one oof my mates calls her 'Jimmy Crankie and I have to say there is an UNCANNY likeness - https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=j...1.69i57j0l5.9840j0j1&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 that TM should resign - WHAT happened to her party I ask??????? I envisage another General Election by Xmas.
