If MADELINE, what a lovely name for a filly by the way, doesn’t win the ‘Rose Bowl’ at Newbury tomorrow (3.50) then I’ll run down my local High Street starkers.

After a promising debut, over an inadequate 5 furlongs, the old girl stepped up on that performance to win a Goodwood maiden against some useful sorts (the runner-up that day has subsequently won by 6 lengths and the 3rd home has gone in by 5 lengths). Madeline then went to Royal Ascot and put up a decent effort to finish 5th in a very, very strong ‘Albany’ – just in front of both Clemmie and Actress who between them have subsequently won 3 Group races!

I think her last 2 runs mark Madeline some way ahead of her rivals, of the morrow, and can only see one result especially when you further consider that Mr Varian will almost certainly have eked, and I do mean eked, out even further improvement from this highly progressive filly.

This advice comes with the Chuckles seal of approval – don’t bet without it. Good luck, crew.

If it was fast ground she would be a cert. My slight concern is that the forecast ground is good to soft, good in places. There are a few who have already won on soft/good to soft, notably Natural who finished behind Madeline at Ascot (maybe unsuited to the fast ground) and Another Batt. She has had Atzeni on top for her 3 races but now has De Sousa up; don't know the reason. If the word "soft" disappears from that ground description I would agree that the 2/1 still available looks good value

PS Yes lovely name. Reminds me of a lovely filly, Madelia

4 2yo races at Newbury tomorrow
I'm going for the pedigree to drool over horse in the first, Dubhe
In the second, no idea so will settle for Buick again (bound to have one winner)

Oh dear, nodded off looking at the third. A New Approach daughter and granddaughter catch the eye but some more expensive ones on show. Give it a miss

The other 2yo race is covered by Barney above

Would it be rude/inappropriate for me to put up FOXTROT KNIGHT tomorrow?

Bit late to the party pricewise but I'm on board with Madeline. Actually think she might improve for the juice in the ground looking at breeding, and can't argue with the form of having Clemmie (who's already my idea of the 1000 guineas winner next year) behind

Chaps - little bit of advice from you all please.

We've been looking at a villa in Mijas near Malaga at very late notice. I know nothing of the area having only ever been to Spain to tour bodegas.

Anyone been? What's the area like?

EDIT: and i've got till 2pm today to decide!

Pretty area around Mijas Bob, nice golf course too.
Wouldn't be my choice of destination as it is far too British for me but for a holiday I think you would probably like it.

Too British? Biggest reason i've never been to the holiday bits of Spain is the 'Brits Abroad'. Maybe have to think again.

Never be time pressured into buying anything Bob <ok>

My brother has a property in Fuengirola (about 6 miles away). Never been there but apparently lovely, although much more commercialised these days

Obviously didn't mind the juice in the ground. Confidence justified and local inhabitants saved <laugh>

Probably the perfect write-up. Clear rationale behind the selection, form well researched and clear indication of confidence given.

Well done Sir, take a bow <applause>

Really fancy Defoe (11/10) in the next @ Hamilton, won't make me rich but will hopefully give me some playing money tomorrow
