Why is Windows 7 so rubbish when it comes to gaming?? Why?? Haven't installed anything yet, but apparently GTA IV struggles on it, San Andreas is not compatible according to Rockstar, Vice City has to be run on compatibility mode and a file must be deleted... Honestly, what's the point?? I remember on my old PC I had to OSs, is that possible on 7? Can I install XP on a separate partition?

You can install XP, Linux, MAC OSX and Windows 7 on seperate partitions if you wanted to.

I have 7 and everything i have played has been fine (including crysis and warhead and crysis 2 etc), not really into the GTA games though and even if i was, it would be the PS2/Xbox/360/PS3 they would be getting played on tbh.

    for GT4

Just tried installing with Windows 7 failed. Then tried running compatibility as Vista, failed. Then tried compatibility as XP sp2 and it worked fine.

Well if you look up the thread I may not exactly be the master of partitions, but if you have an XP disk, it should ask you if you want to install it on a partition. I think.

Cheers! Unfortunately my hard drive isn't partitioned, unlike my old one, and it's a laptop so I can't throw in a slave hard drive, you can't partition a hard drive after the OS is installed, can you?

edit, yep thts how you do it lol

and yes you can partition a hdd with a OS on it, but windows 7 hates 3rd part partitioners like partition magic (or it used to) so use a windows or linux disk to partition the drive. or even disk management in windows itself (shrink volume).

PS you can partition with Vista/7/linux but not with XP OS installed.

Well just had a thought, if you are not comfortable doing it, and i have even messed it up before, where i thought the hdd was buggered, is download the ultimatebootcd http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/ burn it, and if anything should go pear shaped there are loads of tools on there to fix it.

it also has a great program to wipe a hdd (takes awhile though if you do the best one) Dariks boot and nuke DBAN for short, it doesnt work on all setups, but if it does work not even the FBI can get your data (well they probably could but it is that good)

    I don't like 7 either.
Went back to Vista as I honestly believe it was running much slower.
With all the **** running in the background.
Probably why they changed the "Windows Experience Index" on 7 to make it harder to compare like for like.

    Good description here ballin.
Just a case of shrinking your main partition.

If you want 7 to run faster, try disabling 'Aero' (just search for it on the start menu)

Windows got rid of Vista quickly as it was crap (even though i actually liked it) but 7 is a lot better imho. If i ever needed XP though, just dual boot, i have XP, 7, Debian on this PC.
