Jack Payne gets a start for Peterborough at last! Bet he wished he hadn't now as they are 2 - 0 down already at Crewe after 25 minutes
Great to hear that Tony Cascarino will be visiting Priestfield on Saturday. If it is still in print, or maybe at a boot fayre look out for his autobiography "The Secret Life of Tony Cascarino" published circa 2000. It was lent to me eleven years ago while I was on holiday in the Caribbean, by a guy called Grant, who is/was the number one Gills fan in Barbados. An enjoyable read for any Gills supporter. Grant told me how PS had come round his house in Rockley and showed him plans for a new stadium when Gills were on tour there in the nineties. My last memory of Grant was of him shouting down to me from his bedroom window, to say that Trigger was coming back from Bolton on loan! Happy Days....
Full Time: The secret life of Tony Cascarino was a really good read, I still have it albeit quite a poor condition where it sat at the bottom of my old school bag for about 5 months.
If any one is interested, I see there are new and second hand copies, plus Kindle version, available of Tony Cascarino's book on Amazon. We used to joke that when he played for Irish Republic he should have rearranged his surname to O'Cascarine.... Begorrah!
For anyone old enough to remember the team we had in The 1986 / 1987 season, just how good was that Gillingham Side and had Gillingham won promotion to The Second Division, just how far could Keith Peacock take that Gillingham Side ??? Will be great to see Tony Cascarino back at Priestfield Stadium on Saturday
I was a fan of Keith Peacock's sides that were always entertaining. Keith believed that football should be fun, a credo almost departed in some quarters today. As a player Keith was an old fashioned out and out winger and loved to take on the opposing defence. I remember a brilliant last minute solo goal he scored for Charlton against Gills in a friendly, to nick it 0 - 1 in the closing minutes. We will never know how the '87 boys might have fared in Div 2, it was sad to see Keith dismissed early in the following season after a poor run and high scoring defeat. Lots of good players spring to mind from those days, including Gavin Peacock Keith's son who went on to bigger and better things. I found out years later that Keith had been lining up a young unknown forward to replace Cas, but the lad was injured and the opportunity slipped by. His name ?..... Les Ferdinand! Now there's a thought!!!!!
