The fixture computer is going to release the fixtures for the new season tomorrow. Personally I think that we need the fixtures to be kind this year by giving us a run of home fixtures early in the season against mid table opposition in order to help us get used to Wembley. Home matches after Champions league would be good to and a home game on the last day of the season please.
The PL season starts on 12 August and we have to be away on 26 August as the Rugby League Challenge Cup final is at Wembley on that day, so if the early fixtures take the traditional home away home away sequence, then I assume we'll be away first day of the season for what seems like the 50th consecutive year.
We could do with a home start against a really easy team to get things rolling with a convincing win and ease the Wembley nerves fron the off. Stoke or Watford would be ideal. B'mouth at a push.
They don't concede many at all and I'm always nervous facing a newly promoted side at the beginning of the season as they're well up for it. Having said that, if we get Brighton perhaps Chris H will do us a favour and throw the game
1992 coventry away 1993 Newcastle away 1994 Wednesday away 1995 man city away 1996 blackburn away 1997 man utd home 1998 Wimbledon away 1999 west ham away 2000 Ipswich home 2001 Villa home 2002 Everton away 2003 Birmingham away 2004 Liverpool home 2005 Portsmouth away 2006 Bolton away 2007 Sunderland away 2008 Boro away 2009 liverpool home 2010 City home 2011 United away (should have been everton home but postponed) 2012 Newcastle away 2013 palace away 2014 west ham away 2015 United Away 2016 Everton Away That makes 7 home draws and 18 away out of 25 matches. Seems a bit of a low percentage.
I don't think they do follow that sequence though. It's often home away away or vice versa. Last season for Spurs was away home home in the first three games. So home in the first game is more likely next season.
We have only been home on the opening day 7 times in the premier league out of 25 matches. Personally it doesn't bother me but it does bug me that for the past 2 seasons we have been away on the opening day, boxing day and the last day...think thats un necessary and unfair on fans.
By the time all the variables have been entered - such as Spurs not being able to play at home on the same day as the Challenge Cup Final - it turns out that the traditional local derby fixtures on Boxing Day are Southampton v Newcastle and Swansea v Burnley
I'm eager to find out who we have to play to win the league I will be going straight to the last few games of the season. West Ham at home first game please
I seem to remember that Spurs request an away fixture to start to help the groundsman at WHL prepare the pitch which suffers from lack of sunlight during certain periods. If true is the new stadium reorientated to solve this problem?
Well done @PleaseNotPoll Really tough opening 2 fixtures with chelsea our first game at Wembley. Oh well, better to get them out the way early says I.
