Been like that a long time maybe to do with members of the public walking on the beach in the summer. They don't want them getting hooked or hit on the head with a lead weight - H&S issue

I'm off to Maryport (west coast of Cumbria) on Friday, fishing off the harbour wall, no ban there just hope the fish realise were coming and offer themselves up gladly.

Last thing you want while rubbing on the lard is a treble hook in your swede.

Common sense..You don't want people casting with a lead weight while kids are playing. Easy to walk on the pier and fish there..

When I was a kid I went to watch people fishing, before five minutes had passed I was hooked.
