Been like that a long time maybe to do with members of the public walking on the beach in the summer. They don't want them getting hooked or hit on the head with a lead weight - H&S issue
I'm off to Maryport (west coast of Cumbria) on Friday, fishing off the harbour wall, no ban there just hope the fish realise were coming and offer themselves up gladly.
Go there often mate Dog fish drive you bonkers just as bad as the flook down Arnside fish the top side of the pier off the beach for Rays not sure if they are in yet though.
Thanks for that Rooch, just hope the little buggers are biting, were fishing down by the golf club with a walk over to the harbour wall apparently, I've not fished there before.
Common sense..You don't want people casting with a lead weight while kids are playing. Easy to walk on the pier and fish there..
