I have some, some, sympathy for people who have a skinful the night before and get caught out driving the next day when they thought they had sobered up. I actually think the law should have degrees of severity and be applied differently. If somebody's got behind the wheel after 13 pints straight out of the pub/club and been pulled then yeah, they deserve and should get everything that's coming. In the former case where they've driven after going to bed then waiting the next day to a time they thought they'd be ok but weren't, imo it doesn't warrant the same kind of punishment/sentence

In this case the kindly provided link states it was early hours of saturday morning to the gobshite has no excuse.

He should by now have retained a professional driving service and the club probably have a listing.

He will prob get off with 6 months suspension or something cos it doesnt say he was utterly bladdered or anything.

Harsh is what punishments should be. They're supposed to be a deterrent!

Ignorance isn't an excuse. Everyone knows alcohol takes times to leave your system.

Personally I would be all for zero tolerance

It airway is zero tolerance. Doesn't matter if you are one pint over or 100, its the same punishment (unless you're a famous footballer perhaps)

Or the manager of Unitard and you're stopped in the morning on the way to the training ground, tested and found way over the limit, but your club's solicitor has a word with the Chief Constable of GM. And, suddenly, it's... dropped.

Drink driving these days is totally inexcusable. The car effectively becomes a lethal weapon with the ability to do untold damage and casualties. There could have been several victims. I am all for the most severe punishment to deter this behaviour.

If he was paralytic he could spend some time in her majesty's accommodation and he would only have himself to blame.

may i just point out that using a phone whilst driving , even hands free ones, has the same effect as being just over the legal limit for drink driving so it is bout time that was treated to the same punishment.

PS when i originally typed this it contained
being just over the lefal limit for drink driving
    which seemed strangely apposite

They were supposedly starting to crack down on mobile use while driving ... the police presence is generally poor anyways

Winds me up seeing people on their phones every day and not getting punished, either talking with it to their ear or just looking down for minutes at a time either texting or online ... so dangerous

I think a phone in a holder at eye level is ok if you're using it for sat-nav and not messing about with it constantly

Good to hear. Means he didn't have a skin full, Klopp would have dropped him otherwise
