Watching Heat for the first time in years. So ****ing good.

That street shootout is still probably the best shootout in movie history.

If you watched the original anime, I agree, very very good. One of my faves.

If you watched the new live action one... that's another story.

I saw Their Finest recently. Overall, though flawed I thought it was a decent film; it was consistently entertaining, funny, it had a proper 3-act story and it comes in at under two hours. I liked that they didn't gloss over how grim life was during that period. Bill Nighy had some great lines and Gemma Arteton is very easy on the eye (and a good actor). At the end, though, I really wanted to see (all of) the film they were supposed to be making. (Coincidentally, the character Bill Nighy plays is that of an actor once-famous as a film detective - "It's a small detail and one you probably missed." - so it was curious to see this trailer for a forthcoming film in which he plays a period detective - a role that was originally to be played by Alan Rickman http://tiny.cc/5ux6ky.)

My wife's mum was working in London at that time and a volunteer fire warden until she left when pregnant in mid 1942. Experienced some horrendous events in this work.

Sometimes she went into tube stations for shelter during bombing raids and said often the smell down there was terrible.

I agree with that actually. People on here took the piss that I persevered with Breaking Bad when I thought it was so ****ing awful but I a) kept waiting for it to get better and b) thought I couldn't comment until I'd seen it all.

I'm going to see the new Alien film tonight. Never seen the old ones. Does anybody know if that will matter? Is it a remake? Sequel? Prequel? Totally different just using the name for £?
