Good, Jose made noises about everyone getting playing time when the number of games increased and it looks like he meant it.
On Rooney - “He has played every game since the start of the season and he played 90 minutes with England. “I want him to be fresh for the next games. He plays in an attacking position where I have lots of options.”
On Shaw - Mourinho continues on the selection choices, explaining he did not leave England left-back Luke Shaw behind in Manchester because of the broken leg he sustained in the Netherlands against PSV Eindhoven. “I didn’t make the decision based on that negative episode. Luke is a very good player, who is working well and hard. “My options in the first four matches have been Luke, Luke, Luke, Luke. It is time for Marcos to play.”
And as far as the Europa Cup is concerned - BOOM !!! Go Jose !! JOSE: UNITED DON'T WANT TO BE IN EUROPA LEAGUE Jose Mourinho has been brutally honest when it comes to United's Europa League ambitions. The Portuguese boss has said it is not a competition he wants his team in... "This is not a competition that Manchester United wants. It's not the big dream of every big player, but we are not in the CL." He added: “It is too early to talk about winning this competition, but this is a big club and the next match is always important when you play for Man United. “If you see what happened last season, against Midtjylland, you don’t forget that as a fan. Maybe as a player but not the fans. “We have to make sure we are not sleeping.”
On Phil Jones - remember him ? - Phil Jones has suffered lateral knee ligament damage and faces up to a month out, according to Mourinho.
I think that's where JM had hoped he would play, the reality, as we all know, is unfortunately different. perhaps the backroom staff will be showing him where he ought to be playing while the boys are away.
How come then before the season started Jose stated clearly, in a press conference, that he would be played as a striker and not in midfield? And that all season he has not played in midfield. Yet you continually insists he's playing in midfield. Anyway, I expect a truck load of pace and goals now he's not playing.
He has been taking throw-ins on the halfway line, collecting the ball from De Gea and passing it forward to Herrera, taking corners.............he is all over the pitch - everywhere except up as a striker with or near Zlatan who is becoming increasingly isolated as a result. I'm with you on the pace and the goals, but I suspect if we are right, Rooney will find it difficult to get back in the squad as first pick - JM is too tough to allow for sentiment.
I don't understand why Chief is hellbent on defending the indefensible. To suggest Rooney has been playing as a striker all season defies logic. It's almost as though he's not waiting the games. This should help as well. That was the team formation against City. If we think Rooney was a striker for that match, then I guess Lingard and Mkhi were too.
perhaps in name only. For all the goal threat that Rooney poses these days we might at well call De Gea our second striker.
Or No.10, whatever it's fashionable to call it nowadays. Ergo, NOT centre midfield. Thanks for the helpfull diagram by the way. Very helpful, now I know what I'm watching. Does this helpful diagram describe how Rooney playing where he does prevents Pogba going forward by the way? I'm interested, please advise.
Looking forward to - Smalling and Bailly playing together Schneiderlin and Pogba Martial and Rashford Should be goals in this one and a clean sheet to take home hopefully.
