PABLO Hernandez could hand Swansea City a fitness boost ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup trip to Birmingham by returning to first team action. The Spanish winger has been sidelined since picking up a hamstring injury against Manchester City on New Year’s Day. But he may feature at St Andrew’s as Swansea bid to reach the fifth round.

Jonathan de Guzman is also moving closer to returning from a calf injury sustained at Old Trafford two weeks ago. There is more good news surrounding Nathan Dyer, who took part in a group session after damaging his ankle at Norwich last month. Jonjo Shelvey is hoping to shake off a hamstring problem in time to face West Ham a week Saturday.

Hernandez’s return gives Laudrup more options out wide, with Wayne Routledge and Roland Lamah the only other fit specialist winger. “Hopefully this is the end of injuries for me this,” said Hernandez. “I have to be patient and make a 100 per cent recovery before I play because I have had a few injuries this season, which is very frustrating for me. “But I have felt good in training. I have been in with the physios having treatment and working hard in the gym and on the training pitch. “So this weekend is possible. I will see how it goes in training on Friday, and then I will speak with the gaffer.“But I would love to play in the cup because it has been hard not playing in the last few games.”

Meanwhile, de Guzman is set to step up his rehabilitation next week. “It was my first day back in the group today, which was good news,” he said. “Everyone wants to play, but you have to listen to your body as well. “We will have to see how it goes in training. Hopefully I won’t get any setbacks and I can return as soon as possible. “It’s been difficult for us as a group having so many injured at the same time, but we are all determined to come back ready and raring to go.”

At least we'll have some better options to our wing play for Saturday!..............<ok>

at last a bit of good news but lets not take any risks on injured players coming back or tbh our most influential players, even if it means effectively throwing the game - hope Donnely and Monk get a run out

Think Gary Monk is still on the injury list. The list of injuries still a bit grim as only Pablo nearing availability for Birmingham and Fulham.

Fulham going to be a tense evening methinks. <yikes>

He hasn't been likely to feature the whole season. This is his golden handshake. If Laudrup stays over the summer out he is, if ML goes he'll stay as a treasured culture bearer...

1-4,, win for us ....I don't really want that extra game if we can help it by a draw, but we need to get some confidence in the side with some good performances and wins if possible. A win at brum would do us a power of good so a strong side and a constant side is needed. A loss would not help one bit and that's why we must play our strongest side to give us more chance of winning. It wont do the players any good if we leave them out of the brum game and we lose because the next match is a must win premiership match. The players are feeling the pressure in training so get them out there against brum and score some goals and get that confidence going...And ML must show some sort of encouragement during the game also...

I agree apart from laudrup showing encouragement i.e. shouting from the sideline. It's just not his style. But I think we should use it as an rehabilitation exercise for injured/out of form players like Chico, Davies, Tiendalli, Vazquez, lamah, Hernandez, pozuelo.

the reason managers stand on the touch line shouting instructions is because they can see what the players cant see during the game and he can give valuable instructions if their team are not getting anywhere. all the best managers will sit down at the beginning of the match but once they see problems they are soon on the touchline shouting orders and encouragement. fergie, Arsen, the special one and many others, It can make all the difference to the game. By ML just sitting there like one of the spectators does not give any sort of encouragement to his players at all and that is one of his faults...

Every manager has his way of doing things, getting animated on e touch line like a 3 year old is not the answer. Take Pepe guardiola don't see him dancing round the touch line. Perhaps he should react like Alan Pardew with a fouled mouth tirade at other managers.

???? more encouragement than none at all is better surely...How can the players know any problem areas during the game if the manager sits there saying nothing...look at how man utd under fergie influenced many games and arsen and the special one...Its their job to direct their players in times of the game not going your way...It can make a huge difference to the outcome..

Quite right. The fans getting behind the Club would be a good start. <ok>

I agree I would rather the crowd get behind the team rather than ML. Most of the teams in the bottom 6 have managers who get animated and it hasn't done them much good!

the fans wont will they. It's a natural response and you wont change human nature however much you want too. If they see ML going hell for leather on the touchline then that might just spur on the fans...If the manager is not showing any enthusiasm then how do you expect the fans too....It is not going to happen...

Players know what they're supposed to do, perpetration before the match is fine. Perhaps we should bring in DiCanio now there's a man for showing passion on the touch line, I think not.

I certainly think there's a case for Laudrup having a little more presence on the touch line at times. He doesn't need to be shouting or balling, just a little reassurance to the team that he's on top of any sticky situation the team might be finding themselves in..

All our previous managers had good touchline tactics and it spurred the team on...When things are going on that is not working for us and lets be honest here there are plenty of comments on here pointing out different things during the game about this then that is the time for the manager to earn his wages and get of his arse and shout a few orders from the touchline. Anyone can pick his best players and send them out to do what he has told them to do but if his way has been outfoxed then i want to see some activity from our bench. that is what is wrong with our team, there is no leadership on the pitch or off it and its losing us games that we should be winning......
