Everton have agreed a deal to buy a new dockside site for their new stadium, it's only a couple of miles from Goodison and is apparently the site the fans wanted... please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image http://www.evertonfc.com/news/2017/03/23/everton-take-first-step-towards-new-stadium
I'm assuming it is actually in the dock and they're filling it in, but it seems a little odd, as just off the bottom of that last picture, there's a massive derelict site that would seem more suitable.
Water polo? Also made me laugh seeing the Titanic Hotel nearby, whether that's an indication of Everton's future or not time will tell.
It's a really fascinating area of Liverpool. There used to be an overhead railway passing alongside the dock wall in the photos. It'll be a great site for a football stadium.
careful, you will be getting pulled up for pointing out things like that. So, the most recently built stadium in Liverpool will be demolished. Someone on CI said they had enjoyed Goodison as it was a proper, old ground, unlike Anfield. I know what they meant but...
Not exactly. Everton started off at Anfield, but the owner of the ground kept putting the rent up and tried to take over the club, so after a big fall-out, they decided to move out into their own ground. That left Anfield's owner with a ground but no club, so he formed Liverpool FC.
The owner formed a club called Everton F.C. and Athletic Grounds Ltd, Everton Athletic for short. THE FA refused to let them use it so they altered it to Liverpool FC. They are registered as Liverpool FC and Athletic Grounds Ltd. Mr Allam suggested that they should shorten the name from Liverpool FC to Liverpool and Athletic Grounds Liver Birds FC.
Someone posted about that at the time of the name change fiasco at City, with the registered names of some other clubs when the registered name of City was mentioned as opposed to the playing name. Always made a point of asking a Liverpool "fan" in my local since then how Athletic got on at the weekend.
