Shouldn't have started this, forgot we had a thread already going (Mods, feel free to close). But you have to feel some sympathy for the Gooners. They were to get either Bayern or Barca, that's seriously unlucky. For once they did the business in the Group stage as well. Still, if you want to progress, you have to beat the likes of Bayern. Something to be said for seeing where you are early and then getting back to League only if you are not able to compete.
I think it's another of those footie cliches (like it all evens out over a season etc) to say that in order to win the contest you have to beat the best teams. In a knock out contest you don't really have to, someone has to beat them but not necessarily the winners. All the winners have to do is beat whoever comes up against them in each match. If the best teams play each other or are knocked out by weaker teams, you might end up with a final between weaker teams.
On the subject of European draws, I once bought a pair of boxers in Italy. Seriously, how do Italians have children? Those things cut off circulation to anything and everything that dangles.
