There are currently 4 young batsmen (or young-ish) who could end up with 10,000 test runs.

    Here's how they compare:
Steve Smith (age 27) is ranked No 1 in the world - he has scored 3,852 runs in 41 tests at an average of 60.18. He has scored 14 hundreds and 16 fifties
Joe Root (age 25) is ranked No 2 in the world - he has scored 3,875 runs in 44 tests at an average of 56.15. He has scored 10 hundreds and 21 fifties
Kane Williamson (age 25) is ranked No 3 in the world - he has scored 4,037 runs in 47 tests at an average of 49.23. He has scored 13 hundreds and 19 fifties
Virat Kohli (age 27) is ranked No 12 in the world - he has scored 3,194 runs in 42 tests at an average of 46.28. He has scored 12 hundreds and 12 fifties

There are 4 test series underway at the current time, and all 4 players feature.

Joe Root currently has 4,284 runs after the 1st innings of the 2nd test in India - therefore he needs 716 more runs to get on to the magic 5,000 runs leader board.

87 players in the history of the game have got to this mark, of whom 21 are English.

There are 3 more tests in this series and 7 home tests in the Summer - will he do it before then?
