Under 21,s Euro semi Under 20,s World Champs Under 20,s Toulon winners Under 19,s Euro Champs Under 17,s beat Germany 8-3 last year. At what point will this all go wrong?
Having watched the under 21 semi vs Germany, its starting to go wrong already. We clung on for a draw, but were totally outplayed throughout. There looked to be a massive gap. Despite many of their first choice players been with the full team in the Confederations Cup. Many of their players are already established in first teams. Ours are held back as clubs would rather spend repulsive amounts to get demand instant results.
Thats where i see it all.yet other countries get by this. Could be wrong. Could be top tean in 5 years
Yeah focus on that one game and ignore the three tournaments won this summer. This post perfectly sums up how biased English football fans are against their own national team.
Not sure biased is the right word PLT. To me its more the distraction of money pushed through by agents that gets in the way at an early stage. The young players are clearly talented. As we speak we are ahead of the rest..
Making a valid point that many of the German players (and I believe it was similar with the Spanish squad?) have broken into their first teams. Very few of ours have and are unlikely to because of the need for instant success. This mentality HAS to change if the teams are going to progress as they get older. Apologies if I haven't got a massive contented smile on my face as I peruse the state of the English game. And please don't categorise me as a 'typical England fan', you know nothing about me.
The point he is making is illustrated by the figures in this article. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2017/jun/21/spain-under-21s-england-european-championship Look up the article by David Conn in the Guardian comparing the number of coaches or, rather lack of them, at all levels in this country compared to Spain, Germany and Holland for further reasons why we don't succeed at senior level in internationals.
You can throw in a few exceptions, but there is a massive disparity at the ages German youngsters come through compared to ours. Experts are in agreement that it is a massive problem with our development and that the reason is because of money. Odd, I didn't notice half that list at the tournament. And Redmond is 24, Rose 27!
Younger players certainly get more opportunities in other leagues, but the main players in the England U21 team are still largely first team players. Redmond is 23 and was in the England U21 squad for this year's championships.
