Back to having a foreign manager I think. The F.A are likely to go for a safe pair of hands for qualification. Hiddink or someone of that ilk.
Maybe Allardyce could have started a trend, and we will switch to having a new 'guest' manager for one game only.
Can see that working, if they all win their only game in charge we will be World Champions in two years
A N Other = Benitez for me. Klopp would be good though, but I may have anterior motives about that. I reiterate though - if there isn't any great English candidate then it's pure bloody mindedness to go English anyway. There's plenty of better foreign candidates, many of whom have worked a long time over here and may as well be English.
Wayne Rooney is set to remain as England captain under caretaker manager Gareth Southgate. Southgate, who has taken charge of the national side following the departure of Sam Allardyce, has confirmed that he intends to name Rooney as captain for the upcoming games against Malta and Slovenia. Let me be first: Southgate OUT!
Another opportunity to see the obvious, another opportunity wasted. Maybe he's trying to set a new record (though it would be hard) of the number of players that have to play out of position to accommodate Rooney? Also new award for the thinnest and most evidently wrong statement that has been trotted out by hacks more times than I can remember "they're keeping Rooney in there for his leadership" (or words to that effect). Well his leadership has served us well in the past I suppose ... (!)
I have just made you England manager We have four WC qualifiers coming up, please list your starting 11 and captain
You begin to wonder if sponsers are involved. The fact they all name him as captain as their first utterance suggests they know most fans would drop him from the team. It's pathetic and holds back the development of the national team for which the FA should be thoroughly ashamed. Aladyce had more integrity.
Same question..... I have just made you England manager please log in to view this image We have four WC qualifiers coming up, please list your starting 11 and captain Should be dead easy to answer since most fans seem to know the answer
Forster Walker Stones Jagielka (C) Rose Dele Dier Lallana Sterling Rashford Walcott Let's face it, we're playing in the easiest qualifying group the world has ever seen. This isn't the best England team ever, in fact, it has some significant issues at centre half and in central midfield but Rooney's presence (captain or not) doesn't improve either situation. Unless you are going to suggest otherwise?
We are looking at two years down the line, I would have serious doubts about Jagielka, Walker and Walcott (I wouldn't even pick him now). I really don't think Rooney should be in the England team (or even United's team) but was trying to point out that making sweeping changes with qualifiers two weeks away is not a good idea. We all like to think we are manager quality and can do better than the guy in the job, but then, it's not our job to lose. I commend you for actually putting a team forward though, it's more than I would like to do.
As 'Arry said on BT Sport after the Spurs CL game "We have a piss-easy group, we would qualify even with Sandra as manager, and if we don't then we don't deserve to be there". Or something to that effect. Rooney's presence or not will make no difference to that outcome, apart from making it more laborious and boring to watch, but it will damage any chance of real progression and building a team that might have a hope when they play against good opposition in 2018. Southgate isn't stupid and he must know this, so I can only assume it's down to outside pressure and not rocking the boat while he's only got the caretaker job. Sandra's team for the next match (it's Malta ffs!!!); Forster Walker Smalling Stones Rose Dier Lallana Dele Sterling Rashford Sturridge/Vardy
Put Welbeck in place of Sturridge and that is not a bad team. Welbeck is always the better player for England and Sturridge can't be relied on for more than one game (if that).
